This applies more to level 5 but I still want to know your thoughts.

Watching the videos from this year I can't help but notice how many kids are competing and not finishing the twist during their passes. What are your thoughts on a deduction for an unfinished twist? It's a deduction if you don't complete a double (or any twist) down from a stunt and I feel their should be one implemented on incomplete twisting skills in tumbling to reduce the risk of injury.

i don't think it's a deduction. it's just a lower execution score, which would also be applied to tumbling. I could be wrong, but that was always the impression I had...

after I wrote it I realized they're probably both taken out of execution.. I just think that that's not enough

I see where you're coming from. From a judges standpoint does a 1.5 twisting full count as a full or a double? If I'm judging a team of 20 girls and 7 throw doubles and 4 throw incomplete doubles (1.5 twists) do they get majority doubles? The way I understand it, the execution score leaves it up to judges discretion, which would seem to create inconsistency.

I would LOVE to see this as a deduction! I would not be apposed to a triple hit, 1. Not counted as a double 2. Poor execution 3. Deduction!
I'm all for it! But still no ones tumbling will look as clean as @Gym D ;)

Or a 1 and three quarter... I feel those are so prevalent in this sport
Yes there are... This was my biggest pet peeve when I switched from gymnastics to cheer. There definitely should be deductions for this and also for not finishing twisting in stunts (another big pet peeve of mine). I agree with you that taking it out of execution isn't enough. Throwing an "almost" double shouldn't be worth the same as a double. For the most part I think judges don't reward them the same, but there is definitely room for inconsistency. I also feel if deductions were given for this we would see less injuries, because people who aren't ready to be throwing doubles wouldn't be throwing them becuase they would get a deduction. I would much rather see a beautiful, high, not piked down full then a crappy one and a quater.

Rant over now.

I think this would reduce injuries so much, and make me not want to punch people in the face. There's a video of a girl doing a 1 1/4 and literally jump 3/4 turning and starts celebrating like she won the lottery and did a double double double at the same time. -____-

Incomplete double downs aren't deductions everywhere. And with tumbling it should affect your execution and your difficulty score.

This past weekend judging, if you threw 5 doubles, and none of them made it all the way around, you didn't score where you should have.

I personally think an incomplete double down should be an execution loss than a deduction (kinda like a 1 3/4 double is an execution loss).

I'm like king but would like to see it go a little further. I think you shouldn't be given credit for any part of it. If you attempt it and don't complete it then you may as well have just ran across the floor. This may be reflected in the execution I just don't know but there needs to be a standard that is used in judging and the judges should be held accountable for not adhering to it.

I'm with you. If you can't hit it, it shouldn't count and it should really hurt your score for putting in an element that isn't performance ready. I hate seeing "attempts" rewarded. Attempts are for practice. Accidents are one thing. Consistent mistakes are another.

loss in double down - execution
incomplete tumbling double - deduction and execution. would much rather see clean fulls than messy doubles busting knees & ankles everywhere. you'd get deducted big time if some of the doubles in cheer were competed in gymnastics!

Awwwww, come on! No "A" for effort ;) Lol....

On the Varsity deduction sheet, they count off for incomplete cradles (0.5 deduction) and judges count off execution for incomplete twisting skills in tumbling. We will make sure to take these thoughts you presented into consideration of deductions for incomplete twists in tumbling for next season.
