I have converted this year to playing music solely off of an iPod. I prefer an iPod over my iPhone because I don't have to worry about turning anything off wirelessly.

Anyways do people see themselves converting all the way to iPods by next year? If not, why not?

I'll probably always have a cd backup, well at least until its completely obsolete. It's good to have just in case your battery dies, more than 1 team needs music at once, you drop it in water, etc

I just always try to remind people to turn it on Airplane mode. Also, don't touch it. At Athletic Championships, a team was doing their routine, and I assume the coach got excited and jumped, and it changed songs.

It is so much easier than CDs though. I'm team technology.

Interesting. I always thought you were team Jacob.

I too have switched from cd to mp3 this season. I ran an experiment at our first comp and played one team to cd and the next to an mp3 and the sound quality coming from the mp3 was far greater. I still carry a cd in case of some emergency, but will never go back...

I like the idea of MP3's because it means you no longer need people timing the routine. You make a rule: your routine must be less than 2:31 on the counter (no white space). If it is over you get a deduction. No more need for people to time routines by hand (which is possibly one of the most archaic parts of cheer at the moment out side of different scoresheets).

lol make sure you have that setting turned off! Actually just turn everything off that isnt needed to play the music and you should be ok...Place it in a playist by it self, turn the screen off so you dont accidentally hit pause or next. All of this I have encountered just playing music at the gym.

I don't play music. So i just tell other people. It would be even better if it could just be on a flash drive and i could hand it to them to play.

Doesn't NCA take your music ahead of time? I personally like that the best.

An event here has all coaches emailing in their music, named with team name, division and level. They'll compile a playlist based on the performance order and start the music from the coaches cue.

I'm not sure how easy this would be at huge competitions like NCA or Cheersport, but it's worked pretty well here.

I was making a general statement to everyone in response to the coach accidentally skipping to the next song.

Yes definitely. We have all of our music on an Ipod and have (1) person strickly in charge of playing music. We might have (2) people at large competitions to make sure they are where they need to be in case the time is close. With a gym with multiple teams I believe this is an easier way to go instead of carring 25 CD's with you. For the warmup the coach has their own music on their Iphones/Ipods. I see that everything in the future will be crossed over to the Ipod / Iphone. This will make the music correctly on time, not able to skip, and clear with no muffle.

definitely go with ipod over cd's they're a hassle and just too much to keep up with. in terms or being worried about someting happening to anything on the device. that's why i have al my media backed up on drop box, i think two flash drives AND my BlackBerry. so in the event that i lose my ipod or it breaks or something i still have the phone which i'm never without. and one of the flash drives is alwasys in one of the bags i carry around with me.
another thing about it it's sooo much easier than having to keep track of 80 cd's or even when all the mixes are on a few having to remember which track is which.

I do music for our gym and we use CD's. I never tried using an iPod..

iPod iPod iPod!!! I just don't understand the advantage of a CD over the iPod? Are there any comps that don't let you use iPod? Also like imrichhowboutu stated, NCA, pre-recorded is DEF the way to go!
