All-Star Is It Fair That Pd Bids Give The Same Amount To West And East Coast Teams When Worlds Is Held In Fl?

There are a couple of other threads that discuss how Worlds bids work. Here are some things I have observed or know about.

Most of the time the cost exceeds the bid awarded. Many bid producers arrange the travel or it is billed to them so no money ever changes hands. I've never seen or heard of a gym that got bid money and was able to keep the extra.

I was just reading CSG's bid info and it says a maximum of $650 a person. So it sounds like they give you just what you need.

This was implemented last year for the very reason that @magical_mom said as to the difference in a 20 person v. 36 person team.

We got a paid bid this year.
Now I am not the travel person...or the desk diva (aka person that handles the money), but here goes.

In my teams' case we got a check from the event producer.

Each kid got $650. We took $25 from each kid to pay their USASF registration.
We took another $25 from each kid and that paid for and extra coach.
So each kid (at my gym) now has $600.
We have decided that our team will stay at Caribean resort for 3 nights.
I am pretty sure the room cost was $535 (and that 4 in a room)

So now each of my athltes will have $65 toward their travel
Airfare from Philadelphia (closest airport for us) to Orlando is about $250.

So to answer the original question....NO I don't think that west coast should get more money towards worlds.
Everyone knows where the competition will be located before you attend your bid competition.
It may be just as expensive to travel from Maine or some other east coast location....and what about the teams coming from another country. How much money should they get? Can of worms IMO

I'm on the west coast and I don't think we should get more, i'd be happy with any amount. I look at it as a gift. (oh and this year, a pass frm competing early morn on Sat, now that is worth more to me than the $ :D)

ha i know they can get them, its just funny.

why......

the point of a paid bid is, of course, to fund the trip. But you can't imitate the prestige of EARNING a full paid bid. Generally, teams that receive full paid bids have a good chance of doing very well at worlds. It gives the team a label.....that they're something to look at and that they have a shot.

i'm sorry......you're just degrading the idea of a FL team even trying to get a full paid bid.

Since we are talking about special treatment... everyone agrees that Florida/Hawaii/Southern California teams that win should get swim suits instead of jackets bc its not cold there. lol

What if I would prefer gas money over a jacket? If we are making requests... GAS IS EXPENSIVE!

How is she degrading the idea of florida teams getting paid bids? She never stated that Florida teams shouldn't get full paid bids because they are bad and dont deserve them... You are twisting words and taking offense to something that was not offensive at all... She was just trying to spark up the conversation of what Florida teams on paid bids do...

No need to get snippy.

actually.....she said it was "funny" that FL teams could get paid bids. Seeing as how you're on Rock Solid.....I figured you'd probably be FOR FL teams getting paid bids.

I mean, I took it to mean that she legitimately thought it was funny that Florida teams get a full paid bid. As in, haha funny, they are close but still get a lot of money.

I think we are putting words in her mouth assuming that she meant she did not like it was appropriate for Florida teams to get paid. I don't see anywhere where she said she did not support full paids for Florida teams.
