I LIVE off of 5 hour energy. I take one right before we warm up and it gets me so hyped up and ready to go. I love it

My ex-boyfriend (who I'm still close friends with) is/was a HUGE coffee drinker- until he went to his trainer for rugby and the guy could TELL he was a coffee drinker just by doing exercises. It was stealing the calcium from his bones and forming deposits that were causing him pain/inhibiting movement. He cut the coffee down/out (he gave it up for lent last year but has cut it down since then) and it helped a LOT. Anything with excessive caffeine will deplete the calcium and deposit it elsewhere: usually in your kidneys when it's being filtered. My sister was a HUGE soda drinker until she nearly lost a kidney due to a stone: it was the size of a peanut M&M. She was lucky enough that it wasn't in a position where it could do more damage. Both her and my father have had them once each due to their caffiene habits, and from the way she was screaming, it hurts a lot. Even if you aren't active, 10 cups a day is doing damage you might not feel now, but you will most CERTAINLY feel soon. Especially if you don't get it from your diet (milk or leafy greens).i'm not a fan of energy drinks(too much sugar for me) but i drink a lot of coffee- anywhere from 3-10 cups a day. and, this is straight black coffee(no milk, sugar, sweetener etc). is that just as bad? i've never had any side effects from it.
the odds of dying from drinking an energy drink are very slim.... dont believe everything you read on yahoo.
its better to be safe then sorry. you actually can, my friends cousin came very close to .
Too much water can kill you too ;)
You have to know your body and your limits. And everyone should know that 10 of anything per day is pretty much not good for you. That's a given.
not at all, there was just waaaay to much caffeine . several doctors in the hospital told him theyre horribble for you. and actually, if they are used as energy before a sport, they can actually backfire because of the insane amount of sugar in them, they can give you a crash , think about it. when youre active , do you think youre body wants to work to clear several tablespoons out of your body, or let water glide right through?I'm willing to bet he/she has a preexisting condition, or was combining it w/meds he/she didn't know not to mix it with.

benefit yes, not doubting that . but there are clearly more faults to energy drinks, like wcsstilldeath said, about the tar -Maybe you missed the part where I said you can consume too much/OD from it....You're right, sugar serves no benefit to the body, especially for working out...but caffeine does. Not 5 cups of coffee or an energy drink with additional herbal supplements that contain other stimulants (ephedra like), but one sugar free red bull or similar consumption of a smaller amount of caffeine has been shown in numerous scientific studies to provide benefit if consumed immediately before working out.
