I kind of want to brag on my daughter a little bit because I'm super proud of her...
My daughters first season she was a Tiny she always said she wanted to fly. So March of 2012 toward the end of her tiny season one of the college age boys from our gym decided he would stunt jaylen. Jaylen had never ever flown before all he said to her was just stand up and I'll catch your feet and do all the work. He immediately threw her to a toss to hands before she ever made it to his hands she freaked out. He caught her but it was a mess. She was so upset we had to go home and leave practice early! She was just distraught.
Fast forward 2 months and she made youth 2 last season. Some may remember the thread I started because my daughter was scared to fly and she would cry and say she wanted to fly she was just to scared. She bawled all her first practice during stunts and wouldn't even load in to squish. The very patient coach whom was also there the day she got freaked out during the toss to hands worked with her. Every practice was a goal. 2nd practice she went to squish, 3rd practice prep, 4th extension, then cradles barrel roles and all stretches. So my daughter was confident pulling her routine stuff but any changes or if she was asked to do any thing different it was always very thought out by her.
So lets fast forward to the end of the season...
Several different coaches tried to single base my daughter throughout the season. They couldn't even get her to their navel using both hands before she would practically sit down or grab them. I came to the conclusion that because of what happened last year she was probably never going to be in stunts like that. Our gym last season used front spots all season long so jaylen was only comfortable with 4 bases!
When we started at this gym I said look Jaylen front spots are pointless and they will not use them here. So if you really want to fly you will have to get over that. She was disappointed but I think she realized that her front spot before wasn't doing much anyways. So she has been doing great with 3 bases...
Then we had the parent meeting a month ago and they flat us told us every single team will have to be able to rock out 2 man stunts because that is what they want. So I left there and said Jaylen you will have to do it with 2! She was apprehensive so whatever .. A few weeks ago she came out of practice so excited saying her group is the only 2man that hit without the coaches help and could do it all by their self.
So yay I was proud of them!! Anyways she found one of the many coaches that she loves at this new gym and he tries to stunt with her.. Not often but maybe like once every 2 weeks at the end of practice or something just her and him.
This was her a month ago
This was her today! No it was not the best but if you could see the happiness on Jaylen's face you would know why I'm posting this. My daughter is not mental at all when it comes to tumbling but stunting is something she can be real good at but she has been scared to lose the bases or to do it single based!
I know it doesn't seem big to anyone else and I know there are some kids who would do it first try without even thinking twice. My daughter just didn't have that luxury.
I miss our old gym so much but I'm so thankful to this new gym for being whatever it was she needed to overcome her fear. I have seen the biggest change in my daughter in 2 months then I have seen in 2 years. Her confidence in EVERYTHING she does is amazing! Now she is saying she will do a 1 leg stunt next time. Lol she is getting brave!
