Colors of Hope Luminary Drives are being held:

Kerri Augusto of BayState Allstars is organizing a COLORS OF HOPE LUMINARY DRIVE before leaving for the CHEER CRUISE AND SUMMER BEACH BLAST at the Eden Roc in South Miami Beach.
Kerri’s daughter Taevy, a member of Junior 4 at Bay State All Stars is shown making promotional posters for the luminary drive which features the gold “ANGEL” luminary in honor of Angel Pina, a cheerleader from Massachusetts (where both ProAthletics and Bay State Allstars are located) who died in a motor vehicle accident Thursday on her way to cheerleading practice at Cheer Nation.

Here’s what Kerri shared with CHEERMaD tonight:
As for the events we are planning….. we had hoped to start our drive today, but the gym closed due to heat. So we are starting tomorrow instead. We are planning to sell the Colors of Hope luminaries and also the Angel Bows from Plain Jane. We are encouraging a donation of $20 for both, but for any donation of $15 we are also providing the child an opportunity to “carry a light” in our in house vigil, which will be held on Monday at 8pm on the road leading to our gym. We are using simple paperbag luminaries with angel cut-outs and nonflammable flicker lights for the vigil and our Head Coach, Matt Holdridge, has encouraged all members of the gym, including parents, to attend.
We are a small gym, but one that has always touted a strong value system. This year our gym is placing a strong emphasis promoting actions that strengthen the core values behind the gyms mission: good sportsmanship, personal and social responsibility, community, integrity, and kindness. The vigil will involve athletes from Minis to Seniors, and one of our most respected coaches, Sarah Opoka, has agreed to give a simple address tying this tragedy to our need to remember what is truly important.
Other gyms holding Colors of Hope Luminary Drives this week:

Colors of Hope
This week gyms are conducting Colors of Hope Luminary Drives to raise money for cheerleaders who would otherwise have to quit cheer because of a family medical crisis. CHEERMaDs at California Allstars; Midwest Cheer Elite, Ohio; Five Star Cheer Academy in Illinois; American Cheer Xtreme (ACX) and Silver Jax in South Carolina; BayState and Cheer Nation in Massachusetts have officially signed on to run the luminary drives. Other gyms are conducting “virtual drives” by blasting the Colors of Hope luminary information in emails. If you’d like to do that, here’s the link: http://tinyurl.com/LuminaryDrive2012
Here’s how it work: In honor of/or in memory of a loved one who is fighting cancer, lupus, Alzheimer’s, depression, diabetes or any one of a myriad of medical disease find the “color” that represents it; For instance, pink is breast cancer; red is heart disease and AIDS. Fill out the order form and for $10 your luminary will be placed at all Colors of Hope events this season, lighting the way for the cheer community. All money raised will be used to offset the expenses of cheerleaders who would otherwise not be able to cheer because of a medical crisis in their family.

The first Colors of Hope event will be held Thursday, July 26, 2012 at the Eden Roc, Miami Beach from 8-11 p.m. EST.
Every year cheerleaders across the country have to quit the sport of cheerleading for financial reasons due to medical issues in their family. While some gyms are able to provide scholarships or waive fees, others cannot. Money raised with Colors of Hope allows gyms to be paid directly so that the child can continue to cheer. Gyms participating in a Colors of Hope luminary drive will be given priority consideration, should a need arise.
“I think Colors of Hope is such a great thing for many reasons,” said Randy Dickey, owner ACX Allstars. “There is so much pressure already and to take some of that off of the parents, the gyms and the kids is phenomenal.”
Colors of Hope Luminaries cost $10 and come in colors of all illnesses. Familiar colors for illnesses include “Pink” for breast cancer as well as lesser-known color/diseases: Purple the color of Lupus and Alzheimer’s Awareness, Green the color of Kidney Cancer and Childhood Depression and Orange, the color of Leukemia awareness.
Due to high demand, other Specialty Luminaries for “fundraising causes” in honor of a specific need have been added: Red for 975 Saves Lives anti-bullying awareness; Teal for Cheer Fusion, the gym which needs rebuilding after being destroyed in a tornado.

There is also a special Gold “ANGEL” luminary in honor of Angel Pina, a cheerleader from Massachusetts who died in a motor vehicle accident on her way to cheerleading practice. After her family’s needs are met, the ANGEL luminary will be available whenever a cheerleader angel leaves this world.
As a pancreatic cancer survivor for four years, Kristina Parrish, mother of Allie and Brooke knows first-hand about keeping children in a sport they love while the medical bills pile up.

“I understand that burden of keeping children in a sport they love while the medical bills pile up,” Kristina said. “Our family spent the summer of 2008 fundraising as a way to help pay for cheerleading.”
“The cheer gym, their coaches and their friends provided my daughters with a safe haven from the scariness of my fight with cancer. Colors of Hope will support cheerleaders financially, so they too can continue in the sport they love during a time when there is a much-needed escape.”
Kristina, Lisa D. Welsh and Nikki Delude founded Colors of Hope to support cheer families facing medical hardship while allowing cheer coaches and gym owners to support the cheerleader without taking on a financial burden.
Colors of Hope will raise money to support cheerleaders across the country during their family’s time of need. Luminaries are displayed during Colors of Hope Party throughout the country all season. The first event will be held Thursday, July 26, 2012 at the Eden Roc, Miami Beach from 8-11 p.m. EST. All luminaries purchased to date will line both the Eden Roc’s private pool and garden during the Colors of Hope Party. The color of the luminary represents the awareness ribbon of the honoree. For example, pancreatic cancer is purple.
