Anybody competing at the 2020 NCA All-Star Nationals this weekend?

I just have questions about NCA scoring before we get started.

1. Coming from a HS background where we pretty much get our tumbling done clearly and quickly in a few counts, I've never understood how AS judges score tumbling. Especially with openings that have athletes flying all over the place for the visual effect more than for the score sheet. Aside from the full squad tumbling, I can't tell who's doing what or if/when any athlete is being recycled (or if it even matters if the goal is to just rack up doubles). How can they possibly count/score anything?

1a. Whip to fulls seem to be the hot commodity this year. Is this true?

2. The scoring rubric lists specific stunts as "elite." However, some are harder than others. Are they nonetheless scored the same? Read: is it worth it to choose the less difficult stunt than the harder one if they're all equal at the end of the day (work smarter, not harder)?

3. Lots of teams have a "featured" athlete/s. SE has the tumbler who throws the standing full through to double. Panthers has the coed style single base stunt. How much do flourishes like these actually contribute to a score since, at the end of the day, it's only one person doing them?

Sometimes I don't know how CheerUpdates even SEES some of the tumble busts and touch downs on Large teams because unless they're in jumps to tuck, front third of the mat, or in a very obvious location (ex: last pass) I don't catch it.

I'll think HIT ZERO, then see 2 AB on CU and literally wonder where. #blind

I took a look at the scoring recently because I wondered why some teams double up and some don't even risk it.

This is how I understand it with my HS brain:

Everything considered elite for that level is in same diffculty bracket.

So whether you double up or full/1.5 it up, it is still considered elite skill credit in the highest difficulty range. And you only need x number of elite range skills.

If you're not consistent it's mathematically not worth it to double up because it's not going to HELP you more than a full up, but it CAN hurt you if it bobbles/falls.

That was a super basic interpretation and I could be way off. Corrections accepted.

True but its hard to always trust his opinion as well, because he can say its a Hit routine but didn't see the bust or stunt fall.

That was my assumption too, but I have to think that executing the harder elite skills has to matter at least a tiny bit? Generally speaking, the team with the hardest stunts wins. At least that's what we saw at NHSSC (which admittedly is different): shoulder inversions and hand-to-hands were both considered super elite skills, but the hand-to-hands usually won the day or at least placed higher. So I have to think it matters a little? Otherwise what would be the point to push for the higher skills other than just to say you can do them?

Also, I’ve decided that if SE cannot hit both days this weekend, I’m giving Orange the slot in my bracket. I’d really like to see SE win, but that dreaded second day has been consistently costly for them and I don’t think it’s a problem that can be ironed out in a few weeks.

Plus I worry that this year is shaping up similarly to last year in the sense that they’re favored to win, which I do not think helps them mentally or emotionally. I think they lose focus when both the score sheets and social media tell them they’re winning Worlds.

He has multiple people who work for him - some are athletes, some are cheer moms. Some are more accurate than others for sure.
