That's interesting to know. When I went to the dentist for my teeth cleaning last year they mentioned it, and I told them I haven't had pain or antything. I asked how often people don't need them out and they kinda just laughed at me. But I've heard of people like you and your sister so I was a little confused!
It's pretty uncommon for people who have them to keep them, but not unheard of! For most people there isn't enough room. I got mine out the summer after my freshman year bc they were growing in and hurting on the bottom, and there but without room to come in on top. My sister didn't get hers out until after she graduated HS. I started teething early and she started late though, so that's why I got mine out so early. If you haven't had any pain you're lucky and hopefully won't have to get them removed! Mine were so painful coming in!

Anesthesia makes me super emotional, nothing I did was funny like everyone else after they get their wisdom teeth removed. When I got home my sister was making fun of my attempts to talk and I started bawling. Then my mom was trying to make me take my pain meds but I was so numb that I couldn't really drink and she was like "you HAVE to take it or you're going to be in a lot of pain" and I started crying again.
I'll just leave these here... :wasntme:

2 fun facts about my wisdom teeth removal of November of last year:
1. My boyfriend, who's 20 and never got his out, dared me to ask my dentist if I could save the teeth and he did! I still have them somewhere in like a medically sealed plastic casing. Those things are massive. Lol I know that's so gross.
2. I wasn't put to sleep for my surgery. I took a pill I was given the night before, and one the morning of, and was half awake for the entire thing. I was given a little of some kind of gas to numb the pain, but I never went to sleep. I remember the surgeon telling me to open my mouth wider multiple times, and I remember hearing them break one of the teeth. Other than that though, it was kind of a blur. I counted the ceiling tiles and sang in my head to give my brain something to do. Apparently I managed to not only take a pre-op selfie (then drop my phone on my face, according to the dental assistant) but I sent it to a group message I had before I faded out. That was probably to closest I'll ever come to being high; it was cool! :D

I have never gotten my Wisdom teeth out and I am 23. But that's mostly because they don't pull them as often here in Sweden. But i am probably going to have to pull one f them out sometimes soon because it hurts a bit.

You had to ask? They just gave them to us.

I had my Wisdom Tooth pulled out for the first time when I was in my 20s - I was having massive amount of pain 4 weeks after I had my son and my husband rushed me to the hospital. This pain felt like someone was literally hitting me in the head with a sledgehammer, I was given pain medication and was told to go to my dentist and he extracted this impacted tooth while I was gassed up, in a semi-conscious state and I was a witness to everything that happened-Worse experience ever outside of childbirth without epidural. I came home and my jaw was so swollen, I stayed in bed and my husband helped with the baby.

The worse thing that can happen to a woman who face look like a Mack Truck hit it, my Best Girlfriend planned a surprise baby shower for me the next day after my mouth surgery. My husband at the time, failed to inform this girl of my illness and allowed her to continue with this party and forced me to get up and help clean up, pretty up the baby and last get myself dress... Next thing you know all these people came over 'Surprise,' the guests came over with food, drinks and presents and party with the baby because I dragged myself back to bed...Sadly when I think back that was first time I ever had a party in my honor and I still could not attend...hahaha

PS: My ex-husband reported that the party was a blast!

I was so scared to go under to get my wisdom teeth out. It wasn't bad at all. The fish thing I remember was waking up with my phone and I had texted my boyfriend random letters.

My mouth was so dry I felt like my tongue would fall out. I started swearing at my mom to get me some water.

My advice is try not to cry. My mouth was really die a couple days later so I cried and it made it ten times worse. Be careful that you don't get dry socket either!!

I wanted to keep mine so bad, I know that's kinda weird, but I still have ALL of my teeth in a jar. But I was not in the right state of mind right after surgery so I expected my mom to ask, she didn't and in the videos I got really mad because she didn't get them ahaha.

wisdom teeth are worth a lot of $$ in the tooth fairy world, so i didn't leave without them ;) i think i was 19 or 20 when i got mine out? they went from not bothering me at all, to an emergency surgery overnight; so if you have the choice/extra time to get them out before bad things happen, i probably would. out of my wisdom teeth, one went into my sinuses, two were impacted and one was cutting through like normal. and there was an itty bitty fifth tooth in there that they also took out. one of the impacted ones also became a tumor? (there's a technical term for it that i can't remember ATM) it encased itself in tissue and became a pretty rapidly growing mass so i had to have all of that cut out, as well. and the one in my sinuses was tricky to get out so my recovery was probably a little more brutal than most. my mouth was just way too small for extra teeth and they had no one where to go safely.

to this day i can't stomach those drinkable yogurt things. i lived off of them for the two weeks after surgery and now looking at them makes me nauseous.

I feel like you are my twin when it comes to wisdom teeth casualties - I just had one taken out around Christmas last year and again, it was a painful impacted wisdom tooth that had to be cut out from the gum area, luckily, I was out of work at the time, so I was able to recuperate, but had a lousy Christmas...

The first time I had a wisdom tooth snatched out - it was impacted and had an abscess that grew within the roots, so hence the reason for the excruciating pain and long recuperation period.

Serious Note: If the Dentist is telling you about wisdom teeth and they look impacted, PLEASE, PLEASE make that appointment to have it taken out NOW!!!! That pain ranks up there with childbirth without epidural - Really!!! On a Pain scale of 1-little prick and 10-being worse pain and please kill me... It is a 20 - It is beyond excruciating pain and hey, give me the shotgun and let me blow mind own brains out myself. Seriously, that PAINFUL!

Had mine removed when I was in my early 30's. Didn't have any issues, but I remember reading the release before the surgery. It said the doctor had the right to break my jaw if needed to remove the teeth. I told him that wasn't going to happen under any circumstances. So I made him cross through that section and sign his name across it before we started.

Smooth sailing after that.

I've had mine removed at 14. They hadn't come out yet but they were already taking too much space in my gums, so I had to have them taken out before I could have braces.
I didn't have surgery, just local anesthesia at a specialized dentist. He only took out two teeth at a time, left side first, then right a month later. He had to give five shots into my gums before starting. Five huge syringes of god knows what product. That was the hard part, because he a to push the needle far into the gums for the product to be of any use. But other than that, I was completely aware of everything happening.
It went fine for me, but I wouldn't recommend that to anyone who has the slightest dentist phobia. Because you see and hear a lot of gross things during the procedure.
