How badly do you want the job? You're not wrong to bring it up, but they're under no obligation to accommodate you and probably don't want to wait until April to fill the job. Job interviews are last minute like that. They move quickly.

When I interviewed at my current company, after my first interview they wanted to bring me back in for a lunch interview with my future team. Well I had just taken a whole day off at the last minute for the interview and I worked in Boston and didn't drive to work, but this office was in the suburbs. How was I supposed to get there for a lunch meeting at the last minute like that?! But I did what I had to because I wanted the job.
I agree with @Ashley - it definitely depends how much you want it. Sometimes you have to sacrifice things on your schedule to get what you want. Prioritize what's most important. Companies, for the most part, don't have to work around you because there are always other people willing to make the sacrifice. It can be a PITA at times. I had phone interviews with 15 minutes of notice. It's really not tht uncommon for interviews to be so last minute. Even for the people interviewing you, it can be last minute. My supervisor was notified he'd be interviewing 3 people this past summer for an open design position here 3 hours before they came.

When I was interviewing, I recieved an offer email from the company I was interviewing with in CA and not even 10 minutes later I recieved an email from the company I was interviewing with in MA asking me to come in for an interview and to meet the team (I figured it was also to make an offer because they wouldn't have made me trek out there if they weren't serious about hiring me.) I had to drop everything and drive to MA that night. (It was also the first long distance trip I did by myself because I had only gotten my liscence four months before that.) If I had chosen the CA job, I would've flown out to start working 4 days later with literally nothing set up a week before Christmas- I'd be flying by the seat of my pants for a bit.

It's innconvient but it's not uncommon. Congrats on the possibility of an interview though, that's exciting!

I'm not even sure if I want the job. I figured it could be a back up. Unfortunately, I'm not able to just drop work and go to the interview. For my job, there's literally one of us working at a time which means I would have to find someone to cover, and most of the time unless you have a week to find someone, nobody takes the shift. And the accommodations isn't an issue. My sister lives in the town where the interview is. The main issue is really that it was last minute and their communication has been terrible with me. I assumed that the interview was most likely going to be an hour away, which I could do this week, but with class/work/internship/group projects my only available time is in the mornings on Monday/Wednesday/Friday but I'm not able to drive up the night before for those due to working till midnight.

Also the job is a year long program that doesn't start until June or July depending on which one you're in due to they're hiring all new college graduates. So while I see wanting to fill the positions for the program as fast as possible, it's not like I would start anytime soon.

When I said accommodate, I didn't mean putting you up somewhere for the night.

If you can't go, you can't go. We just wanted to make sure you understand that job interviews frequently are last minute and a company doesn't have to go out of their way to work with your schedule. You might in the future have to call out of work to go to an interview. It happens. I told one of my old job's that I had a doctor's appointment when it was really an interview.

But if they have terrible communication and have gone back and forth on what they've told you, then it doesn't reflect well on them and it's probably not a place you want to work anyway.

Ah ok. They did mention that they pay for accommodations for the interview if needed, so I just automatically assumed you meant that.

Unfortunately I literally cannot call off of work without finding someone to cover. I get that job interviews can be last minute, but I'm in charge of a building at work, so if I'm not there for my shift then nobody is and the building won't get closed at night. It's not like I can call and say I have a doctors appointment at 8pm since I work at night because I have classes and my internship during the day. If I know ahead of time I can ask off for that week or day, but that requires almost two and a half weeks notice which sucks.

It's just really strange because it's with a nation wide bank, so I would've assumed it wouldn't be this difficult.

Brussels... :(

I am teaching today and I am jealous of the kids. They have no idea what kind of world we are living in these days...

The thing that struck me most today: With everything that happened in Turkey and Brussels this week I was truly grateful more than once for the "safe check-in" feature facebok has. I wish there weren't a need for it though :(

So Margot Robbie is supposed to be playing Tonya Harding in a biopic. That should be interesting (IMO, someone like Amy Adams or Amy Schumer would resemble her more). I want to see Margot pull off another accent.

If you really can't do it, then that's that. I understand the struggle of finding work coverage though. I've been forced to go into work even though I was throwing up blood. It absolutely sucks that there are times where you can't just "find coverage" or "call off."

Um. What.

Yeah my friends tell me all the time when I work on the weekends if it's at night to just call off. Yeah not how that works for my department. On weekends the building is open until 12:45am so the shift is from 6pm till close so you basically can't hang out with anyone. But it's not like I can just not show up. I'd probably get fired after the first time.

Yes this! I had no idea this existed until today. A guy a graduated undergrad with lives in Brussels and I got a notification that he had checked in as safe. Haven't talked to the guy in years but it was still nice knowing he was safe. And I agree, I hate that we need it but I really appreciated it today.

I worked in a restaurant in college. I was throwing up and tried to call out and they told me no I would be coming in. I was only a hostess but still it's hard to stand and greet people when you had the stomach bug.
