Hi! New prospective cheer parent here. DD was a competitive gymnast and now she wants to try out for an All-Star Cheer team. I've looked into some gyms in our area and narrowed it down to 2. Is it frowned upon to try out at 2 different gyms? They both do team placement shortly after tryouts. Does that mean we are committing to whatever placement they decide?

I probably have other questions I don't even realize at this time so if you can add any helpful information for a new cheer parent, it would be much appreciated!

Yes, many people frown on it. I recommend visiting both gyms beforehand, checking out their social media, and talking to current families to get a feel for the environment. Once you accept a team placement, you’re usually committing for the full season, so it’s important to feel confident about your choice.

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with trying out at both gyms, just don’t accept a team placement until you actually decide which team you wanna go to. Sometimes that whole tryout process gives you the best indication of what the coaching is like and what the other kids are like. Just be aware you do pay for tryouts and they aren’t cheap!
