@MOPSMommy1, I totally agree with you on this matter... The reason why so much is known about some athletes is the desired for cheerlebrity status. Many of these young people are posting so many personal and intimate information about themselves and often it could be the obsessed parent who are amazingly doing it too...
I know for me, I have unfriend? (I think that is what it called) about 5 people because they obsessively send Facebook pictures (at least 8 to 10 per day) of their children...All these parents were cheer parents!
Some of us are pushing and endorsing "stalkish" behavior...jmo

When I initially posted this thread, I posted it to explore elements of reasons why and how a large sector of our cheer team may feel left out... We give lip service to how important all the roles on the team is important, but imagine how difficult it may be or feel when seeing only a small sector of the cheer team being recognized and told they are the NEXT or future of this industry and majority are Flyers...
PS: Maybe I am wrong, but what do we have in place to recognize how important base or backspots on a team?

my impression of this is its a talent search for tumblers. If a backspot or base had elite tumbling skills they were included! I think at the under 12 bracket most elite kids just happen to be flyers.... Puberty hasnt happened yet!

@notimeforthat, I agree with you on your statements, but I believe the wording that this production put out this is damaging... Many young people seeing and reading this is not going to say, okay this is a tumbling recognition...Nfinity Generation Next are putting it out there that these youngster are future best in the cheer industry, which have a far more implication, at least in my opinion...Why do they need to promote it as our next "Cheerlebrities"?....

Maybe it's just me but I look at the video of what's been posted and the only thing I think of are amazing tumblers. I know people in that group that definitely don't fly but can tumble their butt off. So if it's excluding anyone it's excluding those who lack tumbling. In fact I only know 3 girls in the whole pic and only one of the 3 I know flys. The other 2 definitely don't but have amazing tumbling skills!

And adding on to what @notineforthat said not only have they not hit puberty yet but it is well known that if you have those tumbling skills you are probably going to make a higher up team. If you are 12 and under and you have a double or standing full you will be on the closest thing to a worlds team. Considering there are only a handful of youth 5s a lot of these kids are on J5's and senior restricted 5's and when you are under 12 and on a junior or senior team of that high of level the odds are that you are a flyer. Most 12 year olds are not picking up 15year old flyers. Even girls who are flying now on the j5 and senior r5 as a flyer when they get to their age group with the age of their peers they likely won't be flyers any more. My kid is a decent tumbler (she doesn't have a double) but she does have a full and she is 10 and because of her tumbling she has always been placed in the older age group to keep her flying because she definitely isn't a small 10 year old- this year is the first year my kid will base besides when she was on tiny 1 at the age of 5. My kid however would be flying this year had she of made our j3/s3/s4/or s5r- So I think yes chances are that you are going to see more flyers when nfinity only asked for the younger generation of kids to be featured in the generation next.

If you watch the regular nfinity legends since it's open to all ages you will see a huge number of them aren't flyers.

@Pebbles49 Did your daughter try out for this nfinity next generation and not get picked? It seems like you are mad about something.
I don't know much about it but it seems like whoever they want could send in a video of them tumbling and nfinity chose whoever they thought was the best out of the video submissions.
Its not saying that cheerleading is all about tumbling but this particular thing was looking mainly for the elite tumblers that are under 12 years of age. I don't see it as them saying that only tumbling is important and only fliers are important. I just see it as a way to recognize all the young amazing tumblers.

Our gym has an athlete who was selected as a Generation Next Athlete. She is a base, and although it was probably her incredible tumbling skills that got her selected, she is also an excellent base so I could see her being selected on both criteria. So yes, I would say that you are incorrect that this was a "flyers only" selection process.

I must apologize if I come off angry and no my daughter did not submit a video, etc... I just read so many threads on here about young people upset that they were flyers and now "reduced" to being a base or backspots, better yet, the lip service about cheerleading is not just about tumbling and every recognition programs are focused on just these elements of this sport... I just think we are dealing with impressionable young people and maybe the wording of this is what really bothering me most...Again I apologize if I am offending anyone, but in my opinion, children 12 and under, may see this differently and I am concern about the impact this will have on a team sport.

Every team sport has star athletes that get recognized for individual performances. I don't know many of the athletes who were selected for Generation Next, but those who I do know are outstanding athletes in all phases of cheer - stunting, jumps, tumbling, etc.

@quitthedrama, I am really concern that we know all the SMs that are parenting with obscure and warped parenting that will use this to force feed their child this contest- There are going to be parent (s), who will have their child homeschooled and spend 40 hrs in the gym working obsessively... Maybe I am speaking crazy, but are we going to have 2-3 year olds forced to take privates and get a standing full before 5...Idk, maybe I am being over concerned, but I think individual accolades should wait until 16 or older, thats all... Younger children are at the mercy of warped parents, but at an older age, may have a say on what they want...So again, I apologize if I offend anyone and I know at least 7 kids that made the team and I applaud them for their achievements, but I still feel the same way...

A girl from my gym got selected to attend, and as soon as they announced that she was chosen, our whole gym was so proud of her including the younger kids in the program. Throughout the weekend, her mom posted numerous pictures on her Facebook of the amazing experience her daughter had and everyone was just so happy for her. Her friends from current and past teams all supported her. I don't think any of these kids felt upset or jealous of this athlete. Kids are more understanding than you may think.

I actually know an athlete that is on this...she has never been a flyer and she is hands-down the most amazing tumbler I have ever seen in person! I literally shake my head and go, "OMG, did she really just DO that???" when I watch her. I think that having something like this inspires ALL athletes. Kids aren't stupid...in any team sport there are kids who excel beyond most of their teammates. They receive individual accolades, and it doesn't hurt team dynamics. I like to think that it makes a good example, or at the very least, a good life lesson for the others. Some people are just better at some things. Not everyone gets a trophy in real life, lol! ;)

Unfortunately that is the way of youth sports. There are those parents in every sport and they are going to behave the same way with or without a contest. I would hate to see these amazing athletes not recognized because we are afraid of Susie's mom becoming crazier than she already is. I am far more in favor of this type of recognition than a Fancy Face instagram popularity contest.

I thank everyone for the positive feedback and @quitthedrama, you are absolutely correct, we should not allow a small group ruin it for all...
Maybe I am guilty of underestimating the 12 and under group and I will ctfd...
