Sea to Sky is too close to Worlds already. We began deferring Bids back in 2010. however, to exasperate our current situation, Spring Break is not announced in BC until Feb of each year. Yet, booking a venue requires 3-4 years notice to lock in your dates. As an event, we have decided to move another week later permanently. Easter in 2015 will mean even another week back.
The USASF feels that we are too close to Worlds as they require more time to input information, do the lottery and prepare schedules and get organized... makes sense. International Event Producers are allowed to give bids 14 months out from Worlds. Europe and Asia have been doing this for years. Canada is IASF. I worked with the USASF to transition into being the FIRST WORLDS BIDS Event in Canada beginning next year. However, BC only has 2 other Bids in total to award next season if we become a 2015 Bid Event.
Therefore, for this year's event, a maximum of 2 of the 6 Bids were set aside for Teams that already had their 2013 Bids. Three teams were in the running: VAS IO5, VAS IOC5 and Absolute IOC6.
Sea to Sky actually only awarded 5 out of their 6 IASF BIDS. Hence, no one scoring in the "worlds range" was not awarded a bid or "robbed" of a Bid due to this decision. This allows the Valley Stars Competition to still have 2 Bids for teams needing Bids for 2014 and Sea to Sky is transitioning for one more year meaning, at next year's event you can still go for a 2014 Bid.
LASTLY> There is a 90% chance (just making a final decision at our upcoming directors' meeting)... Sea to Sky will award ONE FULL PAID and ONE Partial and 6 At Larges at Sea to Sky 2014. So, everyone should come and get their Bids for 2015!!... Put us on your Schedule!! Wasn't it about time someone in Canada gave out a FULL PAID BID?????
