Thanks for the info :)

So in theory, we could keep full year travel and full year non travel teams, but the problem would happen when the half year teams come along.

@King - with your proposition for one team size, would we have a prep division for half year teams as well?

I feel like you just asked if a square could be a rectangle. So my answer is yes.

I also think gyms could have A and B teams. Similar to tennis how there is line 1, line 2, line 3. Everyone must compete in the A division, but if you have two teams your second can go in the B division. If the scoring isn't comparative and your B team outscores your A team then the next comp the two teams have to switch.

You would put many small gyms out of business. Many of them would not able to field a team of that size. Sorry don't buy your arguement that things would be more competitive because there would be more teams just the opposite you would have less competitive teams just more of them. While it might make it nicer for your particular situation ONE SIZE FITS ALL rarely works.

Smaller teams would be more competitive because the numbers are easier to work out. A team of 12 it is much easier to figure out if they are doing a competitive level of skill for their number of people if the division size is all the same.

Teams of 7 athletes already have to compete against teams of 20, what's another 4 athletes? Sometimes teams of a smaller size can even have a competitive advantage, because there are less stunts to put up, less baskets to throw, thus less chance for mistakes. It's also easier to get 7 athletes timing perfectly than it is to perfect timing for a team of 30. I like @King 's proposal for splitting up multiple teams from one gym. Overall not a bad idea.

I think its good to have multiple divisions small and large.. but for me personally I dont understand the medium division.

36 is a lot harder to field, having 30 allowed more gyms to participate. It is why medium is much larger than large.

I never understood why medium was allowed a maximum of 30 members instead of 28..... it always ticked the OCD in me when I see 7 stunt groups put up with 2 extra members having to hide themselves somewhere (of course there are exceptions like T&S Obsession who can put up 8 stunt groups). Also, 28 makes more sense to me because it's the number that's literally in between 20 (small) and 36 (large).

I actually don't mind the cap of 24 members across all divisions because:
1.) It's already done in the region where I'm from.
2.) 24 is just such a perfect number in terms of number of stunt groups that can be put up, whether it be for coed stunting or just regular stunt groups.

It is actually a brilliant idea to have those 2 extra. Think 'built in alternates'

Interesting. But large teams ARE fun to watch. The pyramids are bigger, it's visually stunning to see nine people in the air in stunts, and the tumbling looks awesome. The dance can be pretty visually exciting too. It would be nice if there were more teams but maybe travel cheer could continue to be "a thing" for those that want to do this. Maybe a three comp series- east, central and west, a couple local comps, and Worlds.

If you are a small team you might already feel like there is too much competition. 90+ teams in your division at Worlds is overwhelming.

I'd be all about set team number.
When people talk about basketball or football or volleyball or soccer, the numbers are the same unless it is a children's (elementary) rec league. Those sports always have a set number, there isn't large NBA and small NBA divisions. There aren't two bowl game series' for football teams with 7 players. (Yes I know there are high school football leagues in rural parts of the country that do 7v7 or whatever but those are unique cases that do not affect the sport for all participants.)

Standardization will help outsiders 'get' our sport more and will help grow numbers for gyms, competitions, etc.

There are some small gyms that don't even have 24 total kids between 2 teams...

And this would benefit them greatly!

No I mean 24 between age different teams. For example, CP's old gym has a mini team of 7 and a senior team of like 10. I don't see how capping at 24 would help them.

Note quite related, but in IOC6 (and probably IOC5 too, I haven't looked) - the definition of "majority" for stunt groups at worlds is number of athletes divided by 3. So we have to put up 8 stunts with only 24 people on the mat (granted, we're allowed 15 guys, almost twice as many as medium coed).
