While I think the internet (and sites like Fierce Board) have changed how we discuss and teach cheerleading has anyone ever thought about how cheerleading in reality has very little written down and all information is taught and transmitted orally?

That is a great point. If humans were wiped off the Earth or the entire sport of cheerleading disappeared, nobody would know about it except from videos. Although there are a few written things like magazine articles that teach stunts.

I've talked to several people over the years, it just seems tough to get started. Tough because there is currently little information documented but SO MUCH to document. Where to start is I feel the biggest challenge, then where to go from there. I feel it would take a team of 10 writers a solid week just to get through half of level 1 lol.

We do have the cheeropedia but I need to put more time into it to get it to be something.

So why don't you put something on the main page asking for submissions. It would take some of the work off of you, and there are plenty of knowledgeable people around the boards that could come up with a well-written description of a skill (or two or three) ;)

It is already open to all. Not sure how else to get it going. I can republish again.

I just feel like, in addition to the vast amount of information there is to document, there's also the difficulty in explaining everything. I suppose if we only used the technical terms for everything rather than the jargon that's become so common amongst us now it would be a little easier to come up with dteailed written descriptions of what skills are. Also there comes the issue of.... there's more than one way to execute any given skills (at least in terms of stunting) there's a full up then there's the "Fake-up" and the countless variations of said "fake-up"
So i guess it's just- where do you start?
Start with basic definitions of what the sport is and what it is we do: stunt, jump, tumble, dance/motions.
and then from there breaking down each category skill wise, dividing it up by level and so on and so forth listing individual skills, combinations and execution variations.
Basically we need to get a team together solely dedicated to the compilation of this Cheeropedia and lock them in a padded room for a couple months. while still keeping them informed on developments of the outside cheer world. There it's a plan;)

it just seems like such an overwhelming task endeavor.

It's a great summer project when everybody isn't busy with other things..makes sense to do it in stages..
