Performance Order

I have been a lurker here for a while and I seem to remember hearing that there can be significance in performance order. That it is preferable to perform late or last in the lineup.

At every competition this season, cp's gym performs first or very early in the performance order. Not just her team, but all the teams that the gym sends.

I thought I read that there were reasons for this to happen on a regular basis but I can't remember what the reasons were. Is the gym registering late? Does it have to do with current ranking? Since it is so consistent, it doesn't seem to be coincidence.

At most competitions, most of our teams perform toward the end or last. Our teams with crossovers are sometimes the ones that may go early when the divisions are close but outside of that we usually go towards the end.

I remember telling our owner that and she said she registers usually the day registration opens, she registers and pays for the competitions. Our parents pay a lot of money up front and at the very beginning of the season so she pays comp fees almost immediately.. so all though their is no scientific way to know for sure that makes sense. Very rarely do we go early in the division and we don't have many crossovers but the crossover teams are usually the only one I ever see go early.

I think it is mostly about the popularity of the teams and the gyms... Most EPs know that the crowd tends to show up late and it will be unfair that they miss their favorite teams, if they perform early... So, EPs know they must please the majority of the paying customers.., (only kidding!);)

PS: Tbh, I think it has a lot to do with how early the gyms pay competition fees...
Another factor, which I think happens a lot too, I have been at competitions that also might place teams order based on how far they are traveling for the competition... Sometimes in- state teams might go first or even last or out of state teams might go last or first...(but I am only speculating...of course, another wiser fber,@RobinSparkles said it best, they might be in a room throwing darts at a team line up for placement...

Many comps will have a notation stating the later you register the higher up the lineup your teams will be. I know I've noticed that happening when our gym decides to add a competition and I know if parents are told late that registration went in late too. I've always chalked it up to when gym registers AND pays

From what I have been told, performance order starts effecting scores when you have more than 10 in your division. Most comps. have 9 or less. So, the majority of the time it shouldn't effect team scores/placements. The only comps. we have attended that have had big divisions are NCA Nationals and Worlds.

I think it definitely has an effect with less than ten. That effect just becomes magnified as there are more teams in a division.

For us, I think performance order often gets based on who it "expected" to win.

I never thought about a significance in the lineup order. Our teams (not my teams, I am a parent) have very often been first or close to it in performance order. Hmmm
