I have just had an email asking my senior girls to perform at the Mayor's charity night called 'Spotlight on Youth'. They wanted to see a video of the girls so I sent them the link to a performance that we did back at the beginning of December. This was quickly thrown together in 2 weeks for a showcase our gym had for the parents. It was good in an okish way, and by that I mean it wasn't competition standard.

The squads I have now, I took over back in September and we have taken the year out of competition to focus on technique as that had all kinds of bad habits. We are now just about to start work on our competition routine which isn't until Jamfest Europe at the beginning of June, so we have pleanty of time ... or so I thought.

This Spotlight on Youth are wanting to see the full routine that we will be performing at the end of March, and they want to see it next week. I have two choices:
  1. Go with the same routine that I sent them on the video, it's not very good and it's only 1:30 but it hits and the girls know it. That gives us chance to focus on the competition routine elements separately.
  2. Put together a rough routine during the next 3 training sessions and hope that they will accept some parts marked out when they come to see it.
I have been trying to get them to accept the video routine but with more elements added into it by March. However, they wont and want to see a complete routine next week. What would you do in this situation?

Mods feel free to move this, I figured this section would get more viewers and ideas as I have only tonight to make a decision.

Trying to toss something together in 3 practices will be death. They won't feel confident and you run the risk of a disaster.

Go with what they know. Unless there are a lot of people with a LOT of cheer knowledge, they'll think the most basic skills are impressive!

im assuming if you are attending liverpool you are a uk team. people over here are super impressed by toetouch baskets, straight up libs, ext 2 legs! full downs amaze people! it def doesnt have to be competition standard! they love a good old ripple here and there too!

i would just try jazz up the routine they all ready know in the next 3 practices!

and good luck and maybe we will see your team at liverpool!!!

Thanks, I've decided to do it. We have the skills it's just not put into a routine yet. I"m going to spend the next 3 sessions choreographing the routine which is a mix of the old with some of the new comp routine in it. I"m not going to worry too much and they can get what we have.We don't have full downs as we are only level 2 but we have some impressive stunt loads/dismounts that I hope they will love.

We're doing Jamfest Europe in Liverpool and are so super excited for it ;) Hope to see you there!

Simple things that amaze people without cheer knowledge:
-straight ride baskets
-dramatic level changes (such as extension to straddle, show and gos, etc.)
-ripples
-High straight cradles
-any sort of tumbling that doesnt look painful or overly scary (no backheadsprings....)
