Are you serious?! I specifically asked the event producers and they said they were not putting them up online. This is a pleasant surprise! Thanks for sharing or I would never have known.

People everywhere have been ruining my illegal online activities (and I know that sounds bad) but I don't think it's wrong to screenshot those pictures or convert music from YouTube... not all of us can afford $1.29 a song on iTunes or $20 for a semi crappy photo. People who still want the real deal are going to pay for the real deal so I don't think they should let down the rest of us and I know this is a terrible point of view but I'm a poor college kid.

I tend to agree. People who would "steal" a photo by taking a screenshot are not going to purchase one if they didn't have that option. Likewise, people who are going to purchase one are not going to consider a screenshot with a watermark a suitable alternative.

One option I found useful was purchasing just a download of a picture that was then sent to my email address. It was cheaper than the individual pictures and I could make as many copies in whatever size I chose.
I do not remember the company, but it was at a Jamfest competition two years ago.

Just add $10 to competition fee and give each competitor a dvd of performance and a cd of pictures. Problem solved. More revenue for videographer and photographer since each competitor is buying.

It annoys me that UEP won't post theirs. What level 5 competitors actually have the time after their performance to view anything at all?

I've noticed, too and it's frustrating. Not only are those touch screens slow, they're incredibly unresponsive. I cannot stand trying to scroll through after waiting in line to see them. I just don't bother looking anymore.

yup, me too. i don't even go look at them because the lines are too long, you have 6 cheerleaders trying to squeeze around one monitor and the touch screens suck. if they are posted online i will look and possibly buy but absolutely not at a comp.

I have to give a shout out to the best photographers in the business, in my humble opinion: Anyevent video. They always put the pics online and they are great at "capturing the moment." Their prices are great and they run lots of specials online. They are from Wisconsin, so they do lots of competitions in the midwest.

This is why I take my own photos. IMHO I do better than most of the professionals. I know the routine. And I know when to shoot my kid (and others). And I "instantly" get my photos ;) If someone asks me to shoot their kid, I always try.

as a cheer photographer (we don't do events...just team and individuals at the gyms) I can tell you that the reason photographers don't like to post online is exactly what a few of you have said. If people know they can go to the site and steal a picture they will (yes, it is stealing. That's why they're watermarked and often say ©)

Put yourself in the position of the photographer.... They have to pay to travel and stay there for a weekend competition. They have to pay a hefty fee as an event sponsor. They have to hire and pay a staff to be there. They are there from the first routine on the first day to the last routine on the last day. Not to mention the expensive technology and software they have to have onsite.

And at the end of the day/weekend when that photographer goes back to his studio, downloads the thousands of images, and then uploads them to his server (which is also very expensive in many cases) he knows that people are going to "take screenshots" of his work and he won't be compensated.

Photographers own the copyright to all of their images. Even though it may be a picture of you, you don't have the right to take the image without purchasing it. (same as any portrait studio photographer) If you love the picture, then purchase it. If you feel it costs too much then don't.

Don't mean to sound like I'm venting, because I'm not. Just making some aware if you weren't what happens on the other side.
