Just curious. I know there are good reasons for having a water fountain at the gym, but I've heard some good arguments for not having one as well.

What arguments have you heard why it's not good to have one?

I wish our gym did so I don't have to hear kids begging for a dollar because they forgot their water bottle.

We don't have a drinking fountain but we have cups at the front desk for anyone that wants to get water out of the faucet. We also have water for sale. Most of our kids just bring their own waterbottles though.

My first gym (Gym A) had one and when I switched to my last gym (Gym B), they didn't have one until Gym A moved out of their location and Gym B moved into Gym A's old location.

A water fountain is a God sent. When I was at Gym B before they moved, I had to ration my water, if I remembered to even bring a water bottle. I could easily drink 3 water bottles during a 2 hour practice, especially in the summer.

Personally, I don't think you can give me a single reason that could outweigh the benefit of having a source of free drinking water for athletes.

current gym has a water fountain (or bubbler, in New England terms) and also has vending machines that sell drinks and snacks.

I've heard people say they're unsanitary (not sure I agree...). There's also the issue of a whole team of kids lining up at the fountain and taking up valuable practice time when they could easily have brought a water bottle instead.

Well we practice in a big multi sports facility, so if you need water you can just run to your dressing room and refill/drink from the tap. Swedish water is so clean and well purified if you had to you could drink from the toilet lol.

Same here. :) The water is really clean and tastes just fine. There is a vending machine so if someone forgets their water bottle they can buy one there.

It's public, whether it is sneezing, coughing, using the restroom, touching mats, vomiting (sorry), etc. there are multiple people touching the water fountain button and my guess is they aren't cleaned all that often. I like the fact they're provided but, I usually buy my kids water if they forget theirs.

Someone needs to swab a water fountain, toilet and a spring floor and report the findings. I bet those spring floors are growing some pretty good nastiness, too. Gyms aren't for germophobes.

We have a water fountain, have water for sale, and we encourage all team athletes to bring water bottles to practice. This way they don't have to walk all the way to the water fountain and waste time during break, but can run to the side of the floor, take a sip and be right back. On extremely hot days we provide the bottled water free of charge in coolers.

My cp's new gym isn't air conditioned...and a water bottle is a must-have even though they gave a water fountain and a machine that sells bottled water. This past summer, cp would drain two full water bottles during and after practice.

Cp typically brings several bottles of water to practice depending on how long it is. They do have a vending machine with water in it for $1 a bottle.

Ya gotta expose your kids to the germs. How else are they going to build a kick-butt immune system for when they're older :P
