OK, so one of the teams I coach had a performance tonight and has a competition tomorrow, I get a call yesterday evening from the owner/head coach asking me to call a practice because one of the kids got in trouble (or something, I'm not even sure what happened) and was getting pulled, parents were asked if they could wait till after the weekend and they flipped. So we had to work a new kid into the routine last night. So I wanted to know:
As a parent, cheerleader, or coach how do you feel about this?
As A coach how do you deal with these situation?
And how often has this happen to you?

Oh and i forgot to mention as soon as we finished the reworking everything we get a phone call saying that they might let their child stay....WHAT? Then this morning we get a call saying she will be back next week!!!
How would you feel about this?

first of all cheer as a means of punishment unacceptable on the parents behalf - they need to re-wire a brain - this sport is affected by the absence of one person
second i think this is completely ridiculous
third discipline the athlete or kick them off the team i dont care if its the parents fault or not but hoonestly this puts the gym in a bad situation as it can be a potential safety hazard as you are moving girls around and it can get extremely hectic and make girls more nervous then they already are - making athletes prone to injury for not being in spots on time, getting in the way of tumbling counts getting messed up etc.
and yes this has happened to me too many times then i could count i was never a coach always an athlete and it truely is some of the worst news a person could hear, if i ran a gym this would not be tolerated

does your gym have a policy about missed practices/competitions?

We are a very very small gym, and the owner/head coach get final say on every thing. If it was up to me she would NOT be coming back so easily! The owner is making them go to the comp tomorrow to set an example about getting in trouble and what it can cause, I believe if they don't show they don't come back. The girl we added is a very quick learner who had been on the team this summer, but had a family tragedy and had to quit, so she already new parts, like the jumps. Plus considering everything they did amazing at their performance tonight, and the add in hit everything except like 2 counts of the dance. I was very proud! :)

i would be to :), in all honesty as much as it sucks having to deal with losing a teammate the night before or going into the practice gym (-_-) it really shows off what a little team work can accomplish, and it also rubs it in that you will be fine without said athlete ;)
