Hi everyone!
I'm currently running tryouts and am having issues with my returners/vets being very cocky and snarky. They are not leading by my expectations or setting a good example. Instead they are bragging, talking over me, giving newbies rude corrections, and making snide comments about each other. I understand tryouts can be very nerve racking, but I'm worried that once season begins we are going to struggle with meshing the team. I've already had 2 discussions with them and haven't seen much change. Any advice?

If talking isn't working, then you need to introduce consequences, be sure to put them in writing, get them approved by your AD, email parents a copy, require parents to send back a signed copy, and follow through.
This can be as simple as:

First and second offense: a certain number of burpees, push ups, or squats
Third offense: sitting on the sidelines during a game
Fourth offense: off the team

Make sure to document every offense and cc the parents and AD.
