So after searching for a gym close to where I go to school, I found a gym to join that some girls at my school were already cheering at. I was put on a prep team, and found some other people on IG and twitter who would be on my team.

Anyway one of the girls tweeted this recently and it make me nervous because they're mocking the "type" of cheerleader who wears these things. I have similar nikes because it's what my middle school used.

I'm probably just being paranoid because I'm new and afraid of people making fun of me/other new people. But are wearing these types of shoes/soffees really looked down upon in all star?

I wouldn't say they are "looked down upon" by most people, but they are no longer standard practice wear. The gym you joined may have specific practice clothes and cheer shoes that you are required to wear, but if they don't, wear what is comfortable. There are girls on level 5 teams at our gym who wear shorts over their spandex (I recommend wearing spandex underneath your shorts, but for functional reasons rather than fashion reasons!). I don't expect anyone will judge you for wearing nike cheer shoes, but if they do then they are the ones with an issue - not you!
Good luck with your new gym and enjoy your season!

We have done both rec and all star and there is a difference in clothing and shoewear that is based out of functionality more than status. Nike Sidelines are strong because they are made for the outdoors and to be worn all day.

Most all stars (at least in our area of NJ) wear Nfinities or similar indoor tumbling shoes like Varsity or chasse. In theory these shoes should be changed into at the gym and not be worn outside. They are much lighter and have grooves that make it easier to grip while basing. Changing them at the gym, also helps protect the mats from outside elements.

I have seen gyms in this are usea both sofees and spandex like nike pros- some kids even layer it (especially the flyers).

Do what you feel comfortable with. You will prove yourself on the mat ;) good luck this season

I've owned those shoes for like 5 years and they are still my favorite. It's just preference and I wouldn't worry about what they say

Thanks everyone for the support. I figured i was just reading too much into things/being too paranoid!
Good luck at your new gym....don't worry too much about what you are wearing because if the girls judge you just for that clearly you should keep your distance. I'm sure there are girls at every gym that care about silly things like that but most will get to know you and not care about your shorts :)
