Hi all I was wondering since we were talking about energy drinks I thought this would be a good time to ask what snacks do you bring for competition? What are your favourites and why? what drinks do you tend to bring?

I have a big nationals this week so I went to home bargins (I think its like a walmart?) and bought lots of snacks. Here is what I am going to be bringing for over 3 days:

Bruscetta toast things
Lemon biscuits (cheap lemon oreo's)
some fizzy sweets
crunchie chocolate bar
marshmallow crispie bars
pack of ribena

I will also get some other food while there and also I can sneak some in my shoe bag

My oldest CP is gluten free: water bottles, gatorade, kind bars, luna bars, fruit chews, reese's peanut butter cups, chocolate covered fruit, mixed nuts, turkey jerky

Almonds! I like the sweet and spicy ones. Coconut water is a good alternative to sports drinks. I also have a water bottle that has a diffuser in it and I'll put some lemons and berries in it, it's so delicious.

It sounds like you have all carbs and mostly junk. You really need to balance your carbs with protein to avoid blood sugar highs and then crashes and healthy snacks are much better to keep your energy up. CP usually has beef jerky, something salty like popcorn or pretzels, and something sweet like an apple or orange. Sometimes a protein bar or trail mix. Water or Gatorade.

Quest protein bars, snack size bag of nuts/chocolate mix, granola bar with added protein - that is typically what cp will have in her bag that she brings in, plus water and/or coconut water.

I was planning on getting some other stuff and that what I have so far. I tend not to eat all my snacks and that is for 3 days not just one. I will have a look for popcorn. Just hard finding snacks like jerky in the uk

It one of the reasons I made this post was to see what others take so I can get some ideas. This comp I am very lucky to be staying with a friend so will be having meals with them but one day is 6.30am to 8.30 so want to make sure I have enough for me and some member of my team as. Y coach does not tend to bring any extra and I know a couple have low blood sugar

I pack plenty of water, apple & cranberry juices, fruit slices (apples & oranges), grapes, cherries, granola bars, raisins, popcorn, cashews and peanut nuts, sandwiches (peanut butter &jelly, turkey and chicken with cheese, I tend to pack condiments), Fruit snack candy and I must admit, my daughter loves oreos and chocolate chip cookies, so I pack that too... That is all I can think of right now.

We flew to NCA from Australia and didn't get a chance to go shopping for any snacks to take with us so I got stuck waiting in lines a lot for food - if I ever go back I'll demand a trip to a grocery store. Here in Australia I usually pack sandwiches in a cold bag, fruit and lollies :)

ETA. Also a heap of water, I hate having to buy bottled water, and I try to eat as healthy as I can for at least the week leading up to competing because that's when it really matters!

I'm usually a huge health nut.

So for me, snacks would be raw almonds, peanuts, homemade granola bars, popcorn (we pop it at home with a little bit of oil), grapes, orange slices, apples, craisins, carrot sticks, whole wheat crackers with cheese, and rice cakes (with PB or almond butter). And tons of water and Gatorade. I stay away from sugary or 'energy' drinks at comps, but I usually need a caffeine fix from my trusty cup of black coffee.

Peanut butter crackers have gotten my cp through many a comp! She definitely needs protein in her snacks...I also pack emergency protein bars. The food at comps is utter cr@p! Dip pin' Dots, funnel cakes & various DEEPLY fried meats makes my arteries clog just thinking about it!

We always pack individual packs of peanuts, trail mix, pistachios, almonds, etc. If she decides she wants something sweet she gets the trail mix that also mixes in raisins and m&ms. Overall she's a pretty good eater and she's pretty careful about what she eats during comps. She suffers from Acid Reflux in a major way so she's learned to be careful what she puts in her stomach.

Dippin' Dots are straight up delicious, but defs not the best thing for athletes...
I wish the options at comps were more energy-food, less state-fair/theme-park-food.

AMEN. It was always so frustrating to see the only "healthy" option at comps being either a wrap or salad... if you were lucky. I feel like someone could reallllyyyyyyy cash in by setting up a healthy option food vendor (or food truck even) at comps and could travel around to the big ones selling real food. If they could work out a deal with the convention center, rally a group of people, and set competitive prices with the other food vendors, I think they'd be very popular.

Ayyyy momma from the fundraising thread, where you at?? :P

I think so too. Would be good financially, good for the athletes, and good for our waistlines. A win-win-win situation.
