has anyone "severely sprained thier ankle within a inch of breaking it"? my doctor has gone insane. He told me I'm not allowed to cheer next season (2013-2014) if I don't have surgery and stay off it. I have a Job dude, I'm not staying off it. Surgery would put me out for a good 7 months which equals no job and having to relearn my skills. Does anyone have any advice? There is no way I'm missing two consecutive cheer seasons. I already talked to my mom about this and she said she agrees with whatever I decide. I really need some advice because I feel like I have to choose between cheer/my job & my health. Has anyone else gone through something like this?

I agree with Admin COMPLETELY.
I caught my foot under a spring floor a few years ago, and apparently had several sprains ontop of it, which my doctor never told us about! We got sent to an orthopedic specialist, and they said I had stretched tendons, muscles and almost torn ligaments, as well as 'extra bones'. They said it was in BOTH my feet, but worse in my left...I never had ANY pain in my right foot?! The ortho told me I was going to have a surgery to tighten the tendons and such, take out the bones, and break my heel to straighten it...because apparently it was crooked?I was going to be in 2 casts for a min of about 7 months. And all together out of cheer recovering for 2 YEARS. TWO YEARS?!?!? oh huh uh!
We went to a sports medicine doc after that and he said physical therapy would be the best option so I could stay in cheer. I did PT for 6 or 7 months (all whilst cheering), and now Im good to go! Of course I wear an ankle brace on my left just to ensure it's got enough support.
long rant about my injury lol :p

I broke my ankle twice in high school playing soccer, and now have arthritis in that joint and will likely need fusion surgery at some point. If your doctor thinks surgery now may spare your joints when you're older, I'd seriously consider doing it now.
