The Holiday season is finally here,
There’s no better time to spread some good CHEER!
That’s right- it’s already December and teams across the country are getting in to the Holiday spirit! There are tons of opportunities to make a difference this year, so don’t waste any more time. Grab your coach, talk to your teammates and check out some of these options below!
  1. The Angel Tree: Many teams, including my own, are adopting a child off of the Angel Tree this year. This is an easy way to give a Christmas to a child that otherwise wouldn’t have one. Everyone can shop as a team or divide up into stunt groups in order to get the job done. If you don’t have time to shop, donating money to their website also helps!
  2. Shop with a Cop: Last year, the Paul Laurence Dunbar High School cheerleaders participated in a new program called “Shop with a Cop.” Faculty members at the school nominated students in need and the team met up with their assigned Cop at Meijer to shop for their student. Each team of shoppers was given money to spend on their student for Christmas.
  3. Volunteer at a local shelter: Most shelters will be serving Holiday dinners to the homeless this season and they are always looking for more volunteers! Take a few hours out of your day to give someone else a meal!
  4. Animal Shelters: Many animal shelters are also looking for volunteers during the Holidays. If you love hanging out with animals, take some time to lend a hand and hang out with some of your favorite furry friends! Also, Christmas is a great time to give the gift of a pet- if you have any room, adopt a pet and give them the home they deserve!
  5. Hospitals: Being in the hospital during the Holidays can definitely bring down some patient’s spirits. Call a local hospital and see if you can get involved. You could simply offer some conversation, or bring some approved holiday snacks to someone who is missing their family and friends during this season.
The Holiday season is full of opportunities to get involved and show America why we need cheerleaders! These are just a few examples, but if you and your team have your own ideas, don’t forget to share them with us! Happy Holidays!
