Hi All! Looking for coaches feedback and veteran cheer moms. As most are or will be going through tryouts soon, what are coaches looking for when testing stunt groups? Is it only if the stunts hit? I know I have very limited insight into what coaches are thinking but curious to see what goes into it. We have two weeks of stunt groups and there are switching people in and out of flying and basing. My oldest hasn't switched out as base and my youngest is switching from base as the beginning to flyer. She has previously based and flown. It seems like they have a large amount of flyers but wouldn't they already know who they want to fly when they created the teams? Thank you!

For bases, coaches are looking for strong, consistent stunts that hit solid. Just as important, they’re watching how you work with your stunt group—whether you’re a team player, how you handle it if a stunt struggles, and if you can stay positive and focused under pressure. They also want to see if you’re coachable, able to follow directions, and willing to work together to fix and improve things.

For flyers, they look at many of the same qualities: teamwork, attitude, and the ability to take and apply corrections. In addition, they’re evaluating your flexibility, body positions, body control, basket skills, and how quickly you pick up air skills. Your personality, energy, and facials also play a big role in how you stand out in the air.

If you’re a returning athlete, they probably already have a good idea of where you might fit. But if you’re new, they’ll need some time to evaluate and see how all the puzzle pieces come together.
