We have 2 practices a week for a total of 5 hrs a week...flyers have to add 1 hr mandatory flexibility class our team schedule is the same come August. Mandatory skills camp for 3 days total 9 hours over summer, extremely lenient with summer vacays...just 1weeks notice required but if you are in town you're expected to be at practice. When school starts if you miss 3 practices gym reserves the right to remove you from the team

Our gym has two mandatory 2 hour practices a week plus 2 hours required tumbling. We also have a 3 day mandatory choreography camp in August.

CP has practice for 2 hours per all star team 2x per week plus 1 hour of tumble per week. See also does tumble and stunt privates 1 time each per work. Her rec team practices 2 hours 15 minutes 2 nights a week. They both have mandatory camp. Each of the all star teams have 5 hour sessions for 2 days each and the rec team has 2 hours per night for 5 nights.

We have 4 hours a week, (each are two hour practices) and a mandatory hour tumbling class.

We have 2 practices that are 2 hours long and then a gym wide 1.5 hour practice for a total of 5.5 hours

My cp's team practice 2 days a week, each for 2 hours and she has 1 - 1/2 hour private - a week... In July, the gym will have 2 days of cheer camp (8 hrs each day) and I believe, in August, 2 days of choreography (5 hrs each day) and in Sept., back to 3 days of practice adding 1 practice on the weekend. The practices are mandatory, but the athletes are allow to miss 3 pre-scheduled practices during the summer.

All the teams at my gym have a 2 2 hour practices a week (1 during the week and one on Sunday). Also everyone is required to take a 1 hour tumbling class. We also had a required over night skills camp in May where they worked skills for about 10 hours. In July each team has 2 days of required choreography for 8 hours each day.

We do a points system during the summer so everyone has to get a set amount of points by the end of August. If they do not get the amount required then they will be re-evaluated for team placement (it will be compared to their original tryout... if they did a round off handspring tuck and tryouts and cannot do it at the re-evaluations then they may be placed on a lower level team). We allow everyone to miss 4 team practices and 2 tumbling classes, so 2 full weeks during the summer. There are also easy ways for them to make up points: attend a camp, extra tumbling classes, private lessons, etc.

can you elaborate on the point system? like do you earn points for open gyms and classes or what? if so, i think i like this idea. good way to get kids in the gym.

Each practice, camp, open gym, private, event, etc. is worth a set amount of points. We weighed the points according to the things we thought were most important and would impact them the most if they missed them (we have had athletes miss an entire months worth before). The way we have the points set up is:

Required:
Team practice- 5 points
Tumbling practice- 2 points
Skills camp- 10 points (is mandatory but we have people miss regardless)
choreography camp- 20 points (is mandatory but we have people miss regardless)

Optional:
open gym- 2 points
participating in a parade- 1 point
attending bonding events- 1 point
30 minute private- 1 point
3- 4 hour day summer camp (in house)- 6 pts
4 hour tumbling camp (in house)- 2 pts

When calculating the points needed we added up the amount of all of the required practices and camps through out the summer and subtracted the amount of missed practices or points we wanted to allow for the summer. We chose 24 points, which allows for 4 missed practices and 2 missed tumbling practices.

If they are going to miss a practice then they must hand in a absence request form one week prior to the event and they will just not receive the points for that practice. If we do not receive an absence request form then it is considered an unexcused absence (unless they are sick or its an emergency). For unexcused absences they lose 5 points or 2 points on top of not receiving the points for that practice (ie. -10 points or -4 points). If an athlete is late to practice and does not let the coach or office know before practice starts then they will lose 3 points (depending on the situation).

The optional points are ways that allows athletes to gain points if they are concerned about being to low. These events only help them gain points and they will not lose points for not attending them.

We always had a problem with people not letting coaches know if they would be missing practice or missing a large amount of practice during the summer months. This has helped a lot in getting more athletes involved and into the gym and also making sure they are staying on top of their attendance.

The educator in me loves this. Positive behavior support rather than punitive. Nicely done.

This is a more complex way of doing it with same general idea as what we do at my gym. We get 2 unexcused absences, past that we have to make them up, but I've noticed that since we can make them up, everyone has been and they haven't been using their unexcused. School cheer and school related stuff is excused, which is the only thing I've missed for (Act, camp, choreo) but I made those up too and so did the other girls who do both. I love that we can make them up bc you still get what you paid for and don't have to worry so much about running out of absences. Since the summer is mostly working on skills until choreography, we just go to another team's practice.

Two 2 hour practices a week, team tumbling an hour every week, at least one 1 hour tumbling class a week, and at least two 1 hour flight classes for flyers. I don't believe ours changes at all come August. Also choreo is mandatory. You can submit an absence request form and can miss two practices during the summer for vacation, etc but are recommended to do it the week the gym is closed. :D

My CP has 2- 4hr practices a week and 1 tumbling class per week. You are allowed to vacation but they need it submitted at the start of the year. We are already working routines, stunts, etc. No classes on the weekends or even past wed for her which is really nice-opportunity to take long weekends! You can definitely see the difference in the kids who come to practice all summer and those who miss often. Regular schedule resumes mid August when our schools start back.

Unfortunately my gym does not have summer practices. We do have 2 camps that take place during the summer and that is about it. We just recently started having open gym's twice a week as well. I wish we had summer practices though, my gym could really use them.
