All-Star Summit Reflections And Recommendations

I was waiting on a mom from our gym to post front view but here is our team that doesn't deserve a chance to showcase their talents at the end of the year in some of your opinion at a Worldslike event and compete against all the other Y2 that had sync tumbling just like them at L2, etc., because that right there usually worked in their favor at most comps, but not at Summit, every Y2 youth looked very similar in skills and ability, clean, etc. And maybe we didn't all post our Summit practicewear here because of straight negativity Summit was receiving from some, plus none of us had been before, what if it was something we all felt duped into attending? It wasn't. But I didn't see a team there that wasn't at least wearing a gym Summit Tshirt from their gym.

Your Cps team is very good! My daughter was on J2 and declined our AL bid. Your team has good timing and creative stunts for a J2 team (they all begin to look similar). Great job! How did they do?

They were Youth 2 and ended up 1st. Youth 2, like all divisions, was packed full of straight up fierce competitors, every team. Fantastic way to end the season. Seems like a year ago and not last weekend since we just finished the third night of age tryouts, find out levels tomorrow, then another two weeks at levels until team placements.

Is Varsity planning to add in Minis at the very least Mini level 2 next year???

So, lets reflect on that. If you were there, did it appear these were non-worlds athletes or did there appear to be crossovers from the previous weekend? If so, how much and what's your opinion on that?

One gym that I know of personally used a few level 5 Worlds athletes that stayed and competed on a Senior level 3 team which I feel is unfair. They did not compete on the Senior 3 team during the year. I think the only way they should be able to compete at the Summit is if they were doubleteaming the whole year. I think teams try to stack their lower level teams for a better chance at winning. The competition was run just as well as Worlds (just smaller crowds). Impressed with it, just hope they control the rosters for future competitions.

The only problem I see with this is families with multiple kids on different levels. That's why I think it would be tough to have the Summit even one week before Worlds. If you've got a kid competing at Summit and you just want to stay the week until Worlds, but you've got a kid on a Worlds team who has practice every day that week, how do you work that out?

Did anyone run into this problem this year in reverse order (a child competing at Worlds, another child with practice that weekend/week to prepare for Summit)? If so, how did you work it out?

ETA: And then if they are two weeks apart, are families expected to travel to Disney, come home and then travel back again? Kids couldn't miss two weeks of school, and two trips just isn't feasible for most people, especially those making long trips from the west coast, northern states, etc.

I am a single mom and had my older daughter competing at Worlds and my youngest had to stay home to practice for the Summit almost every day we were gone. I had to set up who she stayed with and who would take her to practice. Then I came home for a day and a half and left for Orlando again with just my youngest. It was a little easier because my oldest was done with cheer and she drives so I wouldn't have had any issues with getting her to practices. It was also tough financially but I did purchase an extra day on my park hopper while I was at Worlds and the ticket was good through the following weekend so that was helpful. It is not something I would like to do again however and pulling them both out of high school classes for about 8 days would be too much so they couldn't go to watch each other. It was tough.

Maybe not all of the parents of the Senior 3 athletes were able to afford sending their kids to the Summit. Therefore it was a "cheaper" option to have level 5 athletes stay another couple of days to fill in for those athletes.
There were actually quite some gyms that didn't plan on attending the Summit at the beginning of the season, but added it to their competition schedule later. I guess it's safe to assume that not all parents can pull off another "surprise" competition at Disney at the end of the season.

That's on the gym, though, and not on the event. If there is even a remote possibility that we will go to a bid event, it's on the schedule as tentative so that parents can plan. I understand that as a first year event the Summit wasn't on some gyms' radars but it shouldn't be a problem from now on, IMO.

That is true however the gym I am talking about even wanted to put Worlds athletes on their Summit level 4 team but that coach said no (good for that coach) so to me it seems like more of an issue of trying to stack the other teams for a better chance to win. (Plus in their tryout packet it states that to have the best team at World and the Summit they may have roster changes.) I still don't think athletes that competed at Worlds the weekend before should be allowed to move down 2 levels even if it means to fill a spot unless they doubleteamed the whole season and was on the original team that got the Summit bid. I could never keep my high schooler out of school for 7-8 days to compete at Worlds and then the Summit...too much would be missed!

Spirit explosion hot topic didn't even make it to day two wgen we hit and had a 0 deduction routine ! While one team fell and had a boring routine

I really enjoyed the event. It ran very well. The stage set up was awesome, I love the black performance mat.

One more reflection. I loved the Peak Performer medals given to all participants at the reveal ceremony on Saturday. Nice medal. Stands out from all of the rest hanging on her wall. I also liked the mini banner given to the girls that matched their gym banner for placing. I really liked the inaugural pin, too.

On a Varsity note with the pins, my CP loves that she can trade with the staff working at the vendor area. She enjoyed doing that at Summit and NCA.

Our mat in our gym is black so our girls were really excited that the mat was black.

Whoever gave you your participant badge thing and your park pass should have given you your Summit pin at the same time. Our gym gave them to our team moms to distribute and she pulled our pin out of a Ziploc that she had our park passes in, too. Now, I know a couple of CPs lost their pins that first day.


Varsity, if you're reading, we love the pins, but the black things do not stay on the back.

While I was at Disney they sell extra mickey backs for their trading pins, I bought an extra pack just to use on all my varsity pins that were missing backs :)

After multiple foot/ankle injuries and a severe back injury that are all still holding me back today from tumbling, I basically know that unless I get some miracle, I will never be level five. I spectated at worlds last year, and that was fun, but all I really wanted to do was compete with a bid with teams from all over the country who would really give my teams the challenge we had been seeking all year and not yet really found. Summit did just this. I was beyond pleased with this competition. They even did the same "worlds style" interviews and put them on the big screen during intermissions. It was truly a great experience.
If I could suggest anything, it would be to make it a senior only event,like worlds so that it truly is working for the summit just like worlds, but for those of us who will never reach worlds.

I like the idea of a seniors only competition, but the way the ages overlap, a 10 year old would be able to go to the Summit, but a 13 year old on a junior team would not.
