So I've wanted to post this from the start of the year but I've been too afraid. I've just built up the confidence to post this so please be nice. So ever since the start of the year I have not enjoyed my current experience with my gym. There are certain aspects to this gym that I love but there are also things I hate about it. Anyways I live in a smaller city and it only has 2 gyms. There is others a little further out but my parents don't want to drive me that far . Anyways I want to transfer over to The other gym but I don't know what to do. We have had athletes come to our program from there program and vice versa. The thing is I don't know if I will enjoy the experience with this new gym. If I don't like this new gym then I can't transfer back to my current gym. It is a giant risk that I'm not sure I can take. I was recommended to join the higher level team for next team but I don't know if my skills will be high enough or if I can even make the team. I've watched this gym before and they preform amazingly but I don't know if I would be accepted , being from a diffrent gym. Can someone please help?

Also the gym I am wishing to go to goes to worlds and I don't know if I could take that pressure. I don't have close to level 5 skills but I've seen girls on that team that don't tumble at all and nugget in the back for dance.

Speak to the coach of the other gym but finish the season first. Go to maybe a tumble class see if it is the right fit for you then make your mind up. As for tumbling show your willing to learn. I can't even tumble level 1 but I love dance and basing/backing so I aim for level 2 and 3 and make an effort to learn

Why can't you transfer back after a season if you don't like it?
If you want to try out at the other gym, and you can convince your parents to let you, I say go for it. Know that there is no such thing as a perfect gym, though, so don't go in expecting everything to be amazing. What don't you like about your current place?
I wouldn't stress about L5 skills. I assume that there would be a level appropriate team for you. Not everyone at the gym goes to worlds :)

Well I have gone there for open gym but it was still hard to get the feel of the gym. And I guess I can try my hardest for tumbling ! I can't go back because our program director doesn't like the other gym and the athletes there don't accept kids who switch to their gym and back to us.

im sure the owners or coaches wouldnt mind if you sat in on their current practices. youd be a potential customer to them. if theyre smart about their business, theyll allow it.

Well I'm nervous about going back because we have had athletes transfer from our program to their program and they are smack talked all the time. And I know there is no perfect I'm just searching for something that pushes me harder. With my current gym kids come in late and we've barely had practices with everyone there. Also sometimes I feel their is favouritism.
And yes just a lot of kids at this team don't have level appropriate skills but I feel like If I work hard enough I could defiantly get these skills.

I'd e-mail the other gym for information without leaving your address and using an e-mail that can't be tracked to you.

Read every word.

From there decide if you're willing to leave what you currently have on a risk. If it's what you decide, wait until your last competition is over so your commitment is done and then ask to tour/talk to coaches/sit in on practice...etc, etc.

Switching gyms can suck if there is a lot of smack talking, but best advice is to disconnect with anyone who will bring you down and ignore it as best as possible.

Good luck!

Thanks I think I will actually try this!

If you feel it's going to be a good fit for you, I say do it. I was in this position after I finished my 8th grade year, going into high school. Though it was my parent's decision and not in my hands, it ended up being a great move, and I enjoyed 4 absolutely rewarding, unforgettable years with the second gym. They gave me a private try-out and I even made 2 teams entering their program.
The only thing I have to say is that if you decide to make the move, there will be people that are going to support you, but there will probably be more on the latter side. I became a topic of gossip interest at the gym I left (because I had been there since that location opened and my mom was a prominent team mom), and the things they said were terrible..."they left because she didn't get 'her way' ", "we didn't need her anyways", it goes on an on. DON'T LISTEN TO THEM. You do you! If this is something you need to do for yourself, and it's going to progress you, DO IT! I have kept limited contact with people from the old program because I truly was where I needed to be for MYSELF. Don't let anything negative sway your decision!!

Let me introduce myself, I am now Fierce_DeLite formerly Pebbles49-

Sorry I needed to add that, your last reply about feeling stunted and feelings of unhappiness at your present gym is enough to me to try something different...I remember a wise person once saying, will you continue working at a fast food restaurant, if the job of your dreams posted an opening?

PS: Cheer life is too short to worry about meaningless things, spread your wings and fly...Good Luck and I hope it works out for you... If not, then be the Prodigal's Daughter and return praising the gym owner and coaches, highly, only to get back in!
