teams like this shouldnt go to big competitions....

I completely disagree, and this came off actually really rude in my opinion. Who are you to say a coach should deny his/her team the experience of a large competition simply because they may not max out level 4 so they decide to go level 3 for that one competition. This sounds odd, but there are few teams that go to competitions like NCA knowing they have a shot at the top, these competitions are as much the experience as they are the actual competition. Telling a team not to go to a large competition is denying them a journey and an adventure that would most likely prove inspirational to them, and I would be willing to bet that after competitions like this, athletes work harder, especially younger and lower level athletes, because they are seeing what they can someday achieve, things they are not seeing at smaller competitions.

OMG i just re read the post i quoted and i meant to quote this one...sorry about that...i read it and was was like "what am i talking about this doesnt make sense and isnt what i quoted" lol

this is what i meant to quote....

If a team has been performing at, for example, a level 4 for the first half of the season and has not been able to hit and moves down for the rest of the season I can understand it, they have simply realized they aren't ready for that level. But too many teams are true level 4's (again choosing level 4 simply as a example) - have been successful in the season, but move down for the big comps - like NCA. I do think that is unfair to the true level teams they are now competing against.
We saw a very good team (that we know dropped down for NCA) that may have actually hurt themselves by doing this. They were penalized for an illegal tumbling skill and we could only speculate that the cp couldn't adjust and kept throwing a skill she shouldn't for the level they were now competing in. But in most instances, the higher level team is going to have a substantive advantage over the true level teams and it just doesn't seem right. I do wonder about the message that sends a team. It is more important to get that jacket than for you guys to push yourselves to do your best at your true competitive level.
Why can't this be controlled? If they haven't performed at the lower level for at least the two comps before the biggies, than don't allow them to drop. I am completely clueless as to whether this could be enforced and which comps would you choose as the bigs -NCA, UCA and Cheersport? But this happens every year and the common consensus seems to be that is just not right.

I have friends who are associated with that gym and from what I heard, the large senior 3 had plans all season to move up to level 4.

They were wanting to try level 4 at the end of season at a small local competition to "get there feet wet". In January/February they were not ready to do so as a large for stunting abilities, tumbling yes, not stunts. NCA is NOT the competition to try out a higher level for the first time, anyone should agree. We did what was safe for the kids, that is fist and formost! You used to cheer for this organization.........and have friends on teams there!
