My Cp takes a step before all of her standing skills with the exception of her standing tuck. Her new coach HATES it! He said she should be able to throw it without the step. She claims to be uncomfortable doing it that way. Has anyone else had this problem?

wow I've never had a coach tell me j couldn't step. in fact, I've had coaches make EVERYONE step. I'd be so thrown off and uncomfortable. that really sucks but I guess if that's how the coach wants it she's just going to have to start practicing without a step unfortunately

The problem is it makes her uncomfortable to not take a step with the exception of the toe hand tuck or toe multiple handsprings. If she's standing stationary she needs a step

Where did the step originate? It looks absurd, especially for 1 mediocre handspring. AND when you take the step away, it's a miracle how much cleaner the standing handspring is. Just being honest.
it feels like it gives you waaay more power when you start doing 2 to layouts/fulls/doubles. I wouldn't do a step for 1 standing handspring

She might be able to do a semi step as long as it not obvious and the timing is accurate. I've seen athletes convert from the allstar world into the scholastic arena and really struggle with losing the step it worked better when we gradually eliminated it. Every practice the step had to become smaller and eventually it became non existent. I prefer the non step as well, just adds to the cleanliness because everyone steps so differently.

She doesn't do a step for 1 handspring. She steps into multiple handsprings, multiple handsprings tuck, 1 handspring tuck

I've had to do them both ways, depending on the year, choreo, what was in at the time. I've done standing tumbling from no step, to 2 step to now 1 step. For me, I just need to do a bunch with a spotter (light spot, basically just stand there with your hand out) so I can focus on the steps (or lack of) to get used to the new skill. It usually takes a few practices, but I figure it out in the end. Have her do it with a spotter to start and progress from there

My sister started two to tucks and her first time trying it she took a step. Her coach looked at her and said, "Um, you aren't doing a two to whip double. And until you are, no stepping!" (He was mostly joking, but he's a stickler about tumbling technique.)
As for my gym, we've had more problems with kids being uncomfortable taking the step. Like they take one baby step back and their tumbling suddenly looks janky. We've never had anyone struggle to not take it.

I wasn't disagreeing about the step. Most Coaches I know only allow it if your standing pass involves a full or higher.
