Larger divisions (this year it's X-small all girl, X-small coed, and small all girl) have a prelim round of just teams that got at-large bids. This allows a smaller number to compete in semi-finals, so the judges aren't comparing so many teams. The top 10 (or 15 in divisions with more than 40 teams), move on to semis and compete against all the teams that got a paid bid.

All the other divisions have 2 rounds (semis and finals).
