All-Star 2018 Cheersport Nationals

First time attending Cheersport this year. A few questions:
- How does this compare size wise to WSF Louisville? We've attended that and were overwhelmed by the crowds!
- We are at the Hyatt Regency. Can anyone recommend restaurants in Downtown that take group reservations?
- Any other tips for newbies would be greatly appreciated!

Once you are in the venue it's not that far in between arenas - they are all in a row beside each other in one long big convention room. It's the walk from the entrance to the arenas and the arenas to the awards that is long - 15-20 minutes easily and the congestion in the walkways is awful.

Thank you. I have five minutes on Saturday to make it from seeing CP perform to another venue to see one of my “cheer kids” compete with Lazers. Doubt it will work :(

If you just stay in Hall B 1-5 or Hall C 3-4 it isn't a big deal, the arena's are next to each other in each Hall. It's when you want to watch a team in Hall B and then have to go to Hall C is when you need to plan a lot of time, the arenas in Hall C are at the far end. They used to allow spectators to go the back way, but last year they closed it off for only athletes/coaches. If I have to go from B to C and don't have at least 25 minutes, I don't go. I've missed too many teams over the years just by a few minutes.

I don't think it does compare! Cheersport is probably 3 or 4 times larger, perhaps more.

One year my daughter was crossing over and had 20 minutes in between performances in two different arenas (there are walkways that connect the arenas that athletes use but spectators have to go around). I ran full out through the outside (was quicker that way because you avoid all the crowding inside) and made it in about 12 minutes. That was a full out run. Most of the people who walked missed the routine or walked in just as it was starting, so give yourself 25 minutes. Or run!

Lol, and pray the arenas aren't running behind or a few minutes ahead of schedule and the escalator/elevators don't have a long line to get on them.

@Cinn124 Group Me comes in real handy at Cheersport and your fellow parents can tell you if they are running on time, early or late in the different Halls.

It's waaaay bigger than WSF. The crowds are loud and huge. Especially when wanting to watch the Worlds Divisions.

Walking from the Hyatt Regency isn't that bad, make sure you have a good jacket though depending on the weather, the wind through the buildings is rough on a cold day.

Tips for newbies:
-Be ready to walk, a lot. If you have a team going on in B and another in C, its going to be a 20-25 min walk.
-Food isn't cheap, be prepared.
-Have lots of water handy. Being hydrated will help you through the day
-Get your Cheersport blanket as early as you can.
-If you want to watch a worlds team, be prepared to have a heck of a lot of people in front of you trying to do the same thing.
-There is an underground link through from B to the Awards arenas in A that will save you time. It's by B5 if I'm not mistaken.
-Make your athlete go to the bathroom at least 20 mins before they have to meet for warm ups. The lines in the bathrooms get ridiculous and they might just get out of the bathroom just in time to head to warm ups.(Especially if you have a little CP)
-Atlanta attractions have long lines during Cheersport due to all the visitors, get passes ahead of time.

Great advice even for this non-newbie! Last year was our first year and there is still lots to be learned. I didn't realize there was an underground link. Our gym's meeting room was in A so that would be nice. And a ?? - is the Aquarium packed? I had thought about heading over there Sunday after awards but I hate crowds (unavoidable at the competition but I want a respite after!)

It's been so long since I've been there that Hall C didn't have all star teams competing the last time I was there, but there was always a large priority standing area right at the stage. However, for the popular teams, too many people who aren't affiliated with the gym go in and it's an absolute madhouse.

I'm slightly intimidated by the sheer size of this comp. I think I'm going to spend Friday evening wandering around the GWCC just to get my bearings so I won't feel like a lost child come Saturday.
