I don't see a thread on this. I was curious what gyms have alternates for their World's Teams and how it works? Do the alternates practice and workout with the team all season knowing there is a high chance they won't get to compete?

In our last gyms the alternates attend a few practices here and there to become familiar but have not come to practice on a regular basis unless they wanted too.

Are they also on another team as a permanent member or are they only an alternate?

We use alternates on our level 5 team and they have to come to every practice with us. Just in case we ever needed them and so that they could learn our routine in case someone got hurt. Our alternates are usually on another team in our gym. This past year we had 4 alternates. 1 girl was on our level 5 team the year before but got injured and wasn't cleared till around October so we made her an alternate so she could still be part of the team and work out with us. 2 other ones were on our level 4 team. And the other girl used to be at a different gym and was just taking privates at our gym and we saw her and asked her to be an alternate on our team.

Good thing we had them because during the year we used 3 out of the 4 alternates in most competitions. 1 flyer had a season ending injury in February so we used our flyer alternate the rest of the year. another base had to get surgery in January so we used a base alternate for her for the rest of the season. And another base on our team got a concussion and was out for 2 months so we used a base alternate for her.

I love the idea of using an alternate in that way! It seems like it can be a win win for everyone!

With some of the rule changes, I wonder if more teams will start having alternates.

Did you let the alternates Fundraise with the team also? And did the alternates share in Choreography and Music costs, along with monthly tuition?

We have a full stunt group of alternates from level 4 teams, which has already come in handy as a base broke an ankle at Woodward and they had someone to pull right in away who had already been practicing with them. It also helped during summer practices when kids were away on vacation. They are not paying anything additional cost wise at this point from what I have been told, and I do not think they are allowed to participate in team fundraisers.

ETA: the alternates will not get credit for fundraisers that benefit the entire team equally however if the team is having fundraisers that go to invidual accounts, then the alternates can participate.

The alternates did all the fundraising with us.

They did not share in choreography or music cost or monthly tuition. Besides one girl they were all on another team in our gym so they were already paying tuition and already paid for music and choreography for that team.
