College Anyone Know Anything About Montevallo?

My CP has been accepted there, and offered a pretty hefty scholarship (plus a chance to compete for more). She plans to try out as a mascot wherever she goes, and a team that competes NCA or UCA would be a plus. I think she mostly wants a cheer "culture" if that makes any sense, even if her knees won't let her actually do any significant tumbling anymore.

Did a quick google search for you. Seems to be a good school, lots of accolades for academics. Didn’t look at cheer stuff, but ACT score is not too high for admissions, has quite a few major options & is fairly cheap! Good luck to you & CP!

I don't think they attend NCA or UCA, I haven't seen them in their Division (DII Small Coed), but I could be wrong. Their facebook says they're a competitive team tho, but their instagram only seems to post basketball games

Alabama state schools are worth looking at for merit aid if you've got good test scores. They have a low minimum (which I suspect is a function of the state legislature), but also tend to have good honors colleges and give good merit aid. CP prefers smaller campuses, and she wants to do research, which the smaller, honors college schools often are good for. And, she'd really like to be involved in cheer in some way, which seems more likely at a smaller school.

She's also applied to University of Alabama at Huntsville, and actually met with their cheer coach last Feb, but UAH doesn't do football at all (they are the ONE state school in Alabama that doesn't), and cancelled all sports this year, including releasing their D1 Hockey team (the one sport where they are D1, and their cheerleaders largely cheer for Hockey), so they may or may not have cheer anymore. According to the coach, they have done NCA (intermediate), but they also sometimes have competed as an open team at closer competitions.

I cheered at UAH and can answer questions if you still have them. Keep in mind that I cheered back when the team was larger and co-ed, but I imagine their activities are still similar. It looks like the team hasn't really been active this year and right now is just a not-great time for any school sports/activities. :( Haven't heard much about the Montevallo team, but I did check out their Instagram. They seem comparable to the UAH team, so you might want to choose based on which school has the biggest scholarship. If your daughter can't tumble anymore, you will probably want to ask coaches if this will disqualify her.
