I love Ponor, and I'm shocked she's still competing. I'd thought she'd retired after last Olympics? She's a full decade older than some of these girls competing.

Komova needs to find a way to get herself together. It's like if one little thing goes wrong, she can't function and the whole thing collapses. When she's on, she's killer but she falls apart at the drop of a hat. Sad about Mustafina and Yao Jinnan.

Yikes. Going to assume he was guilty then.

Well, if he wasn't guilty, life as he knew it was completely over and I could see that pushing someone over the edge and them committing suicide... but while there wasn't a trial yet, I do believe he was actually guilty - I thought I read they seized the photos the victim talks about, but I can't seem to find the news source ATM.

same. And I was skeptical at the very first report, but after the second one I was pretty certain he was guilty. So with that said, I am glad he committed suicide, as awful as that sounds, because our judicial system sucks and he doesn't deserve the freedom he would get in 2 years because he took it from his victims. Someone very near and dear to me is a victim of rape by a coach and the bastard will be out of jail in 6 months and able to live his life again while the victim can't move past it and has missed so many opportunities, and no one should have to live with that experience, let alone worry about meeting their rapist on the street.

Wow. That's crazy about Marvin Sharp. You would think the authorities would have done a better job at monitoring him cause wouldn't he have been at high risk for something like that? At the very least his victims deserved a formal trail/verdict/confession, and now that won't ever happen. Yeah, everyone can speculate that he was guilty, but without a trail, etc., it will never be official now.

They had just brought additional charges against him last week of producing child pornography. So, yeah.

Just watched Komova's routines from the 2010 Youth Olympic Games, sighhh... she was like this elegant ball of energy; the most gorgeous flight series I've ever seen in a balance beam routine. Presently, I just want her to hit her routines like her coaches now she can, the good standings in results will follow.

As much as I would be elated to watch Mustafina at the World Championships, I'd rather she rest it out if her injury is really serious. Based off the performances at the Russian Cup, these are my pick for Russia's Women's Worlds team:
1.) Viktoria Komova
2.) Ksenia Afansyeva
3.) Maria Paseka
4.) Daria Spridonova
5.) Alla Sonitskaya
6.) Either Maria Kharenkova or Seda Tutkhalyan

... come to think of it, they don't have anyone that I would say is a strong contender for a podium finish for the individual all-around unless Mustafina miraculously returns to a healthy condition.
