This may be a dumb question... but why did Bailie Key travel all the way to Hartford, attend and participate in podium training and then not compete yesterday? Seems odd.

I was away on a trip over the weekend and basically missed one of the biggest weekends of gymnastics this year... from U.S. Secret Classics and Men's Nationals to European Championships and Japanese Nationals. Anyway, here are the final results for Euros WAG:Does anyone have links to the Euros final results?

Team Final
Vault Final
Uneven Bars Final
Balance Beam Final
Floor Final
So team GB didn't get the win they were looking for, but team Russia had a pretty solid day other than counting one fall on beam. After looking at scores, even if team GB didn't fall apart during the beam rotation, they're just not at the level where team Russia is on a good day.
Spiridonova qualified as the 3rd Russian for uneven bars, but Russia decided she had a gold medal potential and yet... no gold medal. Pleasantly surprised with B. Downie though, didn't see that coming... she upped her D score and it paid off, still lots of fine tuning to be done before Rio, but the framework is there. Steingruber was just awesome this time, very well-deserved vault and floor wins; got a taste of what it's like to be Biles. I can definitely see her contend for a medal in vault and floor at Rio, especially with this vault she's been working on (Front Handspring entry to a double twist):
... and then we have Ponor. Other than very uncharacteristic mistakes during balance beam finals, she looked solid, sometimes I forget just late last year she was suffering from an Achilles injury. I haven't heard much about Iordache, but Ponor's likelihood of Rio seems better every day. It's kinda sad that it took two of the oldest members on both Romania's WAG and MAG team to bring back medals from Euros (2 silvers by Drăgulescu and 2 bronzes by Ponor), I don't know what's in store for the current and next generation of gymnast in their programme.
As usual, Mustafina looks defeated during podium training but owns it during the finals. I was pleasantly surprised by her beam finals performance, especially after so many years of struggling with a consistent acrobatic series. She still looks cool and calm as ever, even with what her body has gone through over the quad. She missed a connection and had a form break during a handstand pirouette during uneven bar finals, but otherwise, she looked just as light and floaty as before. Just F.Y.I., no one fell during beam finals... that's a first in any big international competition in who knows how long.
I still have so much gymnastics to catch up on, but Japan has announced their Rio team and it's:
Men
1.) Kohei Uchimura
2.) Kenzo Shirai
3.) Ryhei Kato
4.) Yasuke Tanaka
5.) Koji Yamamuro
Everyone listed was as expected, except for Yamamuro, who's a ring's specialist. I guess Japan decided what works best for the team, and my goodness what an incredible team this is. Also, take a look at Shirai's Yurchenko 3 and a half twisting vault:
It's truly INSANE!!
Women
1.) Mai Murakami
2.) Asuka Teramoto
3.) Aiko Sugihara
4.) Yuki Uchiyama
5.) Sae Miyakawa
6.) Marina Kawasaki
7.) Natsumi Sasada
I don't follow Japanese WAG enough to know whether this is the strongest combination, but I see Murakami and Teramoto, so I'm good.
I haven't had a chance to catch up on U.S. Men's Nationals at all, but the 2016 U.S. Senior Men's National Team have been named, these guys automatically go to Olympic Trials:
1.) Yul Moldauer
2.) Eddie Penev
3.) Chris Brook
4.) Alelx Naddour
5.) CJ Maestas
6.) Sam Mikulak
7.) John Orozco
8.) Jake Dalton
9.) Paul Ruggeri
10.) Akash Modi
11.) Marvin Kimble
12.) Sean Melton
13.) Donnell Whittenburg
If you guys noticed, Danell Leyva didn't make the cut, but he was one of the five that were nomiated by USAG and they include:
1.) Danell Leyva (he's honestly got so much to prove in such a short time if he even wants to be considered at this point.)
2.) Donathan Bailey
3.) Steven Legendre
4.) Brandon Wynn
5.) Kanji Oyama
2 months to go y'all!! It's about to get REAL.
In other news, congratulations to Max Whitlock, she said, "Yes!"

There's still so much more I have to say, like how the Dutch couldn't send a full team due to injuries and not wanting to risk the team further with Rio approaching, Afanasyeva not exactly in good condition and only being able to do vault (if there's no Afanasyeva in floor final, did the floor final really happen?) and Kim Bui being healthy again; kicking butt on uneven bars:With all the catching up that you've done, fierceboard needs to crown you as the official Gymnastics correspondent. Lol. But I like your insights. Informative
It's amazing how after so many years, she's just as confident as ever in her abilities. She's just one of those gymnast you can never not like... I hope the best for her. Here's a little montage of one of her well-known dance element over the years:Looked up the videos of Ponors vault. Much better than last time. I just love the style of her gymnastics, and I hope so much that she goes to Rio. So curious about her and bars.
The Madison/Ashton saga deepened this weekend. At this point I am just veryyyy interested to see Maggie's progress. If she is healthy enough to go (which is think depends on a lot on if she can amanar again...which I read is the plan. ACK) I don't really think we will need to send a bars specialist. Even though it hurts our chances for a bars medal, it would help the team overall to send four all arounders. Simone, Gabby, Aly, Maggie and Laurie is who I am envisioning at this point. Put everyone but Aly on bars on qualifying, then probably Laurie, Maggie and Gabby on in TF. If Maggie can't recover, I think things get a little more interesting.
But then again, if we only have one amanar (Simone) we might need higher bar scores. Becuase if China and Russia hit bars they are all 15+, and the only one of those girls that could hit over 15 on bars at this point is probably Gabby. IT'S ALL SO COMPLICATED
.
As for team GB I would love for frags to tone down her beam some. It seems right at the edge of her ability. It's not very consistent and GB already has issues just hitting beam at competitions. Ellie looked great though love her.
Hmm, waiting for the NBC broadcast but from the last few competitions...
For some reason, Gabby bothers me. Like, shouldn't she stay home and focus on her TV show... It just seems like the attention went to her head.
The talent saturation seems to be getting thicker each year. I wonder how many of the current seniors will try to hold out for Tokyo 2020. Or, I wonder if any of the juniors considered competing for another country in hopes of scoring a event medal. Morgan Hurd was born in China, so she could potentially compete for them, no?
