yes! There is no shame in being an "older" level 1 or 2 team either. So many times I see parents or coaches who simply do not want to put their kids in that box. I'd rather coach a Junior or a Senior level 1 or 2 that is gonna be full of kids with heart and work ethic than coach a Senior 5 of kids with attitudes. :)

At my gym the lower level teams are all coached by either older level 5 athletes or the same coaches that coach the worlds teams. Lower level is not worse or better than any higher level team. I've seen level 1 teams that might not have hardest routine in the world, but you can tell they work hard to make it look like that because they killed it! I have respect for all levels.

My kids have been on just about every age and level team we've had at some point in time. And they've learned very valuable cheer skills at each level.

I agree to be proud of what you CAN do and keep working hard!

Im on senior 2! But I shouldnt even be on that level haha.. I can't do anything backwards. Fail. Yeah too right I can do anything forwards front tuck step out, all sorts.. but I cant even manage a backwards roll. Wish I could get over this block..

I LOVE THIS THREAD!

A pet peeve of mine is when someone posts on the board that Senior 1 shouldn't be a level. Yes, there aren't many senior 1's so maybe it can't be sustained, but for some people, it is a great level that suits them and their abilities.

i agree it is a good place to start and get a solid background in cheer

I agree... cp may or may not move to mini 2 next year. She is bummed b/c most of the girls she started cheering with at this gym last year are going to definately move up next year. She has a sloppy front WO ROBHS, and definately needs some cleaning up. Then I realized that if she stays at level 1, she will positively SHINE on her team next year :) Even though she will definately be one of the oldest on her team, and more than likely the most experienced, I told her it doesn't have to be a race to the top, and there is nothing wrong with staying level 1 as long as she is having fun!! She knows tumbling isn't her strong point, and that is weighed very heavily at our gym regarding placement. Honestly, I think it would be good for her to stay level 1 for one more year. Level 1 is definately more relaxed to a degree, and since she will age out of mini for 2012-2013, it would be one last season before it's time to really crank down (if that's what she wants!)

Great thread! I've always told people that I'd much rather be on a great lower level team that skill wise I should be than a less than mediocre "level 5" that probably should be a level 3/4 because there are people on the team that don't have the skills. I've been on levels 2,3, & 4 with the majority of my years being on 2 and I wouldn't trade it for the world. If you asked our level 5 crossovers, I'd guarantee that they'd tell you that they have the most fun on the lower level teams but also have to work even HARDER than their level 5 teams sometimes. Never be ashamed for being apart of a team that you love!!

I LOVE THIS THREAD! its so true. im level 3 and i dont tumble level 3 and having coaches/atheles belittle a team because they are not a higher level is ridiculous, and im so over with, my coach is not like this but i've been told by girls ''yeah but this is only a level 3 team'' . i believe ALL levels should be respected from tiny 1 to open 6. its the love for the sport people. not the best tumbling pass.

Oh and someone mentioned Senior 1.. This year Step 1 had a half year team and decided for it to be Senior Level 1. With the exception of a few crossovers from the other level 2 teams, most of the girls had never cheered before. I wanna say they had 13-14 practices TOTAL but won level 1 high point at Cheerpower Northeast Nationals. It was perfect for the new girls to learn the basics so they could be prepared for tryouts to go up a level. For anyone who thinks Senior 1 isn't worth it, please think about these girls and what it meant to them!! :)

Here's their last performance: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4By5PcR13Eg&feature=channel_video_title
