Just because you can't appreciate a classic, do not presume that others have that same failing.

Oh honey... I appreciate classics. But what most people read is the abridged version, which I actually enjoyed. There is two "original" versions. One is written in French, which I have read in French and the actual English version is over 1,000 pages long, which I have also read. The long version simply made the book tedious and the abridged version is a much better read, that is all.

Books are all about opinions, you calling it a "failing" because I enjoyed the shorter version is also an opinion. For the sake of this thread, if people do in fact want to read the book, I would simply recommend the abridged version. Same story, less time consuming, that's all. Shimmies to you if you like the long one better.

Had you presented your opinion in that manner in the first place and explained what you meant by "actual version", I would have had no problem with it, but frankly, I found your initial comment rude. Props to you for being able to read it in the original French - I couldn't. (And I personally would still recommend the unabridged version.) Truce?

Yes! And I apologize for sounding rude, I mostly meant that it was just super tedious. I have a French minor so that's the only reason I did but thank you and hey, to each their own on the version.

It's my favorite... I did a project on it for my EOC last semester and got extra credit because I started crying when I was talking about suicide prevention things that were inspired by the book....

My teacher read it beforehand but a lot of people in my class read it afterwards!

Janet Evanovich??? If so the movie One For the Money is based on one of them.

The Great Gatsby is my all time favorite book. I was Daisy for Halloween. I own two fancy, expensive limited edition books, that one and To Kill a Mockingbird. Fell in love and never looked back.
If people looked at my bookshelf, they would be confused because my taste in novels is all over. If people like funny books, I recommend any of Tucker Max's books, fair warned it is for an older audience. If people like sports books, my personal favorite is Moneyball and if you want to cheat, yes it is a movie. Another classic favorite of mine is Wuthering Heights. If you like history, take a stab at The Mayflower Papers, boring at times but an overall good read.

And for all of you who read the 50 Shades... so did my 75 year old grandma. She read them all in 2 days and talks about them ALL the time. Awesome.

Those Janet Evanovich books are so good! Easy read, I can do one in a day. Haha the Tucker Max books are hilarious! I'd like to thank my brother for introducing me to those. I love the Great Gatsby and To Kill A Mockingbird too.

Yes Janet Evanovich. I tried to watch the movie and it was So awful I couldn't (compared to the book anyway) I made it about 10 mins in then gave up lol the books are fantastic though.

Yes! Anyone who hasn't read thirteen reasons why needs to pick it up now. It's a quick and easy read and is one of the most amazing books I've read.

Read 13 reasons in an afternoon after seeing it recommended on here and I think it should be required reading in school. Fantastic.
