With the way this sport constantly changes its rules (or picks and chooses when to apply them), there were bound to be issues at Worlds.
Any glaring scoring errors should be rare, and when they do happen, they need to be ironed out BEFORE Awards. Awarding a team 7th place, then bronze medals, and then telling them they really got 5th is just insanity. And the scoring needs to be as computerized as much as possible so that it's not possible for a 4th place team to accidentally rank ahead of a 3rd place one. Every kid with half a brain on the internet spotted that error right away on the Non-Tumbling results page, yet it doesn't seem like anyone in charge bothered to double check the results. Awarding multiple medals based on silly problems like announcement blunders, especially at the most prestigious event of the year, just looks bad.
I much prefer the Worlds scoresheet over the Varsity scoresheet because it allows for much-needed differentiation between teams, but it still needs work. Ideally, you want the judges to be using the same scoresheet throughout the season instead of having to adjust to a new scoresheet just for Worlds. When I looked at the scoresheet breakdowns, some of the difficulty scores given didn't actually make sense based on what was put on the floor. One day this sport will have a universal scoring system that really feels right, but it's not there yet.
