I'm not really close with anyone on my team.. I'll always talk to people but I don't consider them cheer sisters like most cheerleaders do:( any advice on how to become closer?? Thanks!!:)

How long have you been with your team? Sometimes it seems hard when others have already made friendship groups but just keep mixing around and talk to everyone. More importantly just be yourself! It takes time for friendships to grow closer, remember that. Also, don't compare your friendships to 'cheerlebs' most have been within the same programme for years and have grown up together. Good Luck :)

I started last October but this is my first year on this team and by the time I came there they already had their own groups that they would talk in! And thanks for the advice!!:)

The first year my daughter joined a team she didn't really start to bond with the girls until competition season got into full swing but by the end of the season she made some great friendships that continue on today.

I agree with this. Competition season always helps bring a new team closer together. Hang in there.

I got really excited that this was a thread about those who have cheered with their sisters... false hope.

But friendships and bonding aren't going to happen naturally. There were girls on my team that I loved and would count them as family and then there were some that I only talked to if I had to and I think that's the way it always is. Try to make one or two really close friends on the team, it's a lot easier than pleasing everyone.

Sometimes making friends with someone and becoming close with them takes a while. Sometimes it happens fast. It just varies. There are girls on my team that I've cheered with for four years and we aren't close, and then there's girls that I've cheered with for a year and a half and I know I could call them at four in the morning and they would answer. Bonding time with your team would help. Have a sleepover! We always have sleepovers at our gym. Especially before nationals. Have a group text! The most important thing is that you make sure you're yourself when making friends. Hope that helped a little!

There is no set time it takes to become close with your team. It just happens naturally! Don't push people into making friendships. All the girls I've cheered with since 1st grade at rec and all the way to high school our senior year, I rarely talk to... But at my first year of all-stars I became so close with my team and we hang out outside of cheer all the time. Sometimes it's just the people on your team and how you mesh with them.
Give it sometime and i'm sure you'll make some awesome friendships! Good luck :)

Granted I cheered with my 'cheer sisters' (I have 3) I cheered with all of them on allstar and 2 of them are in my grade and are my best friends out of school. 2 of them I cheered with since we were 4 and the other we just bonded fast. It takes some time, but try to find something in common. For example my 'sister' has the same name as me, we were on the same level on allstar, we are both on varsity, we both have blonde hair, play the flute and have the same name :)

Especially when you start going on overnights. It amazing how quickly they bond, especially if the team travels together on a bus.
