And in that note I don't think there's any legal issues either. I'm no lawyer- but I did pay attention in history class and I remember that thing about the first amendment. Pretty sure people an say what they want. Otherwise the news would be illegal, magazines would be illegal, etc

From a legal standpoint, the people that are discussed in the book have to prove that they are being intentionally defamed and prove that her statements are lies. After reading the book, I actually see her complimenting these people. If people are just reading the "sample" they are not seeing anything good. She talks really good about her coaches and her team at Famous. Those coaches are the same people in the "sample" part of the book. I recommend reading the entire book and then posting your thoughts. I see that she is posting all of the reviews to the book's facebook page.

Well then you are lucky. Maybe because you are in Kentucky where cheerleading is taken MUCH more seriously than in some areas. Cause I have been back in the cheer world for just a year and I've seen all of those things. I am not going to say who from, but I can list 5 gyms off the top of my head.

Alright, that's fine. Not all gyms are hunky dory. BUT, this girl has no idea what she has just done. She is a child who just made a dumb decision, and has no idea how it is going to impact her life, or the others that she "called out." Sadly, she probably thinks she has done something great that will make her a few dollars... She has managed to isolate herself (good luck trying to coach or work in this industry again) and has put more fuel on the fire to how horrible cheerleading is. It's not helping our industry-it's hurting it.

The whole thing just screams for attention, topped off with these fake comments about how great it is.

I dunno, I read the whole book. I don't think it bashes cheerleading in anyway. It talks about the ups and downs in her cheer career. We all have our own story to tell. We have hard times, struggles, and those shining moments that makes it all worth it. I love cheerleading. This sport is my life. This sport saved my life. And if anything is "defaming" our sport it's the people who hook up, smoke pot, etc. And as a new mother, I would be FURIOUS, no, BEYOND FURIOUS if someone was smoking pot then spotting my child in inverted positions.

How bout we all read the book, then we can have an infomed 'Book Club' discussion about it. Nobody has a perfect cheer world, job world, or family world. Lets not bash or feed into the negative until we read it ourselves and evn then... What's so bad about a girl telling HER story?!

Someone my boyfriend knew very well in high school used to cheer at one of the gyms the author was at, and he talked a lot about smoking weed with his teammates and coaches in the gym and hooking up with teammates, etc. I'd be lying if I said I was surprised that those kinds of things are mentioned in the book.

I'll give it a read and reserve my judgements until the end.

I don't quite understand how she made a dumb decision by telling her story. It is actually quite funny that people who haven't read the book would be bashing it or bashing her. And it is also quite funny that people are surprised about drinking and pot smoking and hooking up. Wasn't there helicopters and police involved at an unauthorized party at the all-star resort almost a year ago? And I could be wrong but are the people that were involved in that whole mess suffering any consequences for it this year?

Everyone knows that this goes on, just because it was made public and names were named doesn't make the author a bad person or mean she did something dumb! Maybe this is what needs to be out there to start making some changes in this industry to clean it up.

For the record, cheerleading isn't horrible, but some of the antics that goes on truly are! As the parent of a flyer, I would be beyond furious if I found out that my child's bases were sharing a smoke before they came in the building for practice.

I thought the same thing...I started All Star Cheer when I was in the 8th grade in 1998 and am still involved to this day...Between cheering myself and coaching, call me crazy, but I have ALWAYS gone to practice, worked hard, and loved cheer. None of what I have read here was, nor am I ever apart of...maybe I'm just naive...

She did make a dumb decision. Does she work in the industry? Because if she did before, she sure won't now. I wouldn't hire her, and I can't imagine any one I know involved with cheer would hire her. Why? She could go and write my name in a book and tell everyone everything I've ever done. It's extremely unprofessional, and many of the things she did in the book were extremely unprofessional. She called out gyms and discussed underage drinking at the owner's house and used names. She named another girl and implied that she was an online prostitute, and then wanted to go into business with her. Customers of a business were called out about their underage girls having sex with an instructor. Private conversations with gym owners having breakdowns exposed to their clients.

I don't think this girl understands how this might not affect her, but it does other people. She thinks she is doing the right thing by blasting them in a book? The real world doesn't work like that.
