I genuinely thought Lady Lighting had it considering they had a higher raw score after day 1 with a tumbling mistake...

I know any component can affect the raw scores, but this still baffles me.

Then again, they were only separated by 0.04 on day 2, which is basically nothing.

That’s incredible. Sometimes I think saves that like should actually count toward your raw. Or at least not against.

However, I think this speaks to a problem that stunt group has. Sometimes that flyer gets a little too wacky in the air. And I get it: she’s a great performer and a big old ham. It’s kind of her thing. But it’s a problem if it compromises a stunt. You can see she’s leaning too far while trying to pull that body position and her bases couldn’t tell until it was too late, which — as a former backspot — is maybe the worst feeling ever. It’s not the first time I’ve seen her bases have to absorb her movements in comp. And I just hope they can iron out these tiny flaws before Worlds because I want them to win it this year. Saves like this show they deserve it.

Then again, they were only separated by 0.04 on day 2, which is basically nothing.

It was extremely close. Raw scores can change wildly from one day to the next (often they go up on Day 2 even if you did the same as Day 1), and routines look different every time you see them (and judges can't remember exactly how they scored yesterday), so I don't read into raw scores much.
