The problem is you have to make reservations through Connections for the hotels they have listed not with the hotel directly. At least that has been my experience. They will not have any of the good hotels (for me that is distance to the event) available, they will have those all blocked off for insiders and staff. The only thing I would do is make a reservation on your own and work with Connections - that will be a first time for Cheersport buy in as it said in the screenshot of the letter. Connections said they would work with the gym as long as the hotel is on their list. It does not work that way for NCA you have to use Connections period.

Our gym does not do blocks - only teams may do so within the gym. So most of our parents are on their own.

When I called and asked why certain hotels were not available but are clearly on their list they said we have to keep those rooms blocked off for certain personnel and certain teams which they did not name. In other words I did not get too far booking my hotel of choice.

I just got my American majestic email also. I politely emailed the rep who runs the competition in our home town that if we are expected to book hotels to attend a competition10 minutes from our gym that we will take our $8, 000 in reregistration fees elsewhere. And we will.

I've never been to American Majestic but I'm going out on a limb here by saying that there's no way they can make the hometown team to stay in hotels.

At NCA it's not just the Omni...it's practically all of the hotels near the convention center.

I got same response too. In fact I had hit the jackpot and scored a block at the Omni through CH , only to have CH call me back to let me know that NCA had taken those rooms back because they had fewer rooms than expected and had promised them to a big gym (their words!)

The Omni is huge I'll bet there are a few big gyms there. We lucked out 3 years ago and got in on a new hotel that is stone's throw from the convention center. We keep a block with them every season but, we're not the only gym that stays there. And I saw A LOT of Varsity staff there as well.

It opened 4 years ago. Someone from our gym was walking to get food and saw it and went in to find out the rates and how many rooms their hotel had and there were a few cheer families there but not 1 specific program...... We do 2 blocks.....1 there and 1 at Le Meridan near the Galleria Mall.

The sad fact is not everyone can find a hotel and be close enough to walk or take the dart......we have 2 room blocks and 1 is walking and 1 is a 25 minute car ride. Sometimes people have to rent cars and split the cost's.....

And, I don't handle the details but you've only had to use Connections for the last 2 years right? As long as the hotel is "on the list" I think you can handle it either direct or through Connections....just making sure to let connections know that you did comply and it was with one of their participating hotel's. Please don't quote me on this because I'm not 100% sure....and I like to say so when I don't know something as fact. But if you like I would be happy to find out about the direct or with connections answer.

I know that last year we had a few families that still needed rooms and managed to get rooms at Sheraton....Omni and Marriott. Of course they paid dearly for them but it was possible. If I needed a room I would start calling every few days from Jan through NCA. Just call around different places. When deposit's are applied toward cards not all of the charges go through and those rooms get kicked out into the general reservation pool and if you're calling every few days you'll probably catch 1 of them. Doesn't help if you're hoping for a block I know but.....

Yes before Connections it was a different Housing company. They still spam my email on a regular basis lol! The reality is if you book just a few rooms it has been fairly easy to get a room nearby... Sometimes (wink) avoiding the mandatory book through XYZ requirement. Trying to get a whole team together has proven almost impossible for us, and we put in our requests a week after NCA 2013 for the upcoming year. It is what it is. Love the comp. hate the housing situation. Hopefully Atlanta doesn't turn into an ever increasing expensive stressful housing nightmare too

If a large percentage would boycott, these bullying techniques would go away. Varsity is going to continue to suck every last dollar out of your pockets, but I feel with the Varsity kickback to the gym owner plan, they will still see 900 or so teams.
