I'm interested to hear what you do with your minis for class. How long you class goes for, what you include, how you find you get the best out of yours?

I've been working with that age group for a long time now, but I am always interested in learning new techniques and learning new things!

Our policy is that Minis are big girls. Because we have a Tiny team, it's a privilege to make Minis. They warm-up, tumble from corners and then work on their routine. One thing we do is called the treasure box, which is where we pick on kid who did an exceptionally good job at practice and followed all the rules (was on time, prepared, with shoes on, followed directions, didn't random tumble) and they get to pick a treat

That's an amazing idea. Thank you.

I would say be careful with rewarding. I don't necessarily think it is bad but it can become a slippery slope if not handled with care. My daughter is on a team where everyone is expected to do there best. They are told when they do things great and told when they need to work harder.
She was on a team previously at a gym that gave points and prizes to this same age group each coach picked 1 girl. It became quickly the girls who were generally not listening and had a day where they listened half the time or didn't walk off to jump on the trampoline like they usually did were rewarded in hopes of encouraging their continued better behavior. Kids who always behaved and gave a 100% very rarely were acknowledge because they were always good. It started to counteract and good kids were misbehaving and my child basically said she was fed up with all the kids misbehaving that cheering was a privilege and she wished she was with older kids. She is still with the same age but at a different gym. She is so much happier to be someplace where expectations are high from the youngest to the oldest. They still get specials and things as a team from time to time but it is not tied to practice.

Our minis are run exactly the same way as any other team in the gym. Stretch, jumps, conditioning, stunts, transitional work, tumbling and dance. It works well because they arent treated like babies.
