To be a All-Star coach is it pretty much all on the job learning (I assume some have cheered in the past)? So really you don't need any type of training or certifications?

Required? Depends on by whom. But highly recommended that you get USASF certified (which requires written tests, hands on tests and experience) and AACCA certified.

It should be required. It will only improve the sport. I'm getting certified now and as part of it I'm doing a lot of shadowing and asking questions. I love how other coaches are so friendly and forthcoming with information.

No, but you should. Also (and I could be wrong so someone correct me if I am), I thought that if you attend Worlds as a coach, you had to be USASF certified.

Any parent who is going to put their child in cheer should be looking for certified coaches.

I agree with you 100% the only thing that stinks is that parents new to the sport don't necessarily know what it means to be certified or that it is even possible. I brought up at the Northeast USASF regional meeting last year that it would be nice to have something from them stating why parents want there kids being coaches by credentialed coaches. I would love to come up with one, but I'm not that creative. I can do the text, but it would look like a 3rd grader designed it. lol

I'm reading your question a little differently. You don't need any experience/certification to start coaching level 1 (and maybe 2, I believe) in USASF, but you need hours of experience signed off by your gym owner to get credentialed past those levels. Level 1 and 2, you can just take the certification, with no previous coaching experience/hours of experience. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong on this as I did mine years ago

I'm in favour of getting any and all coaching certification possible. It will only make you a better coach. And I would never send a kid to a gym with uncertified coaches.

The Parent Action committee developed Cheer Parent 101 a few years ago. We find this very helpful to have available on your website or available in your gym office for parents to read. We can only provide information. Many will make poor decisions and when they finally do learn, they will go find the gyms that are credentialed.

I Coach an All Star team. I have taken the AACA Safety Certification. But I am not part of a Gym, just a small town team. We would love to at least try to qualify for U.S. Finals next year. Do I need to get my Levels certification to ne able to take my team to something like this? And can you do Level certification online? Thanks.

I don't think you can online but they typically have places around the country during the summer that you can take the tests. For the upper levels you have to have someone sign off on your experience though

Would the Instructors be able to sign off. I would only want certified to Level 3. We compete Level 2, but I would want to go up to 3, just in case we would ever get better.
