All-Star Coaches Helping Out Other Gyms

I've talked a little more to UltimateRudags and I feel I should clarify. I have no problem with helping and "spreading the knowledge" so to speak. But this was ridiculous. I just don't like to see someone spreading enough knowledge that the money I'm spending on choreography and coaching is being wasted. Yes, like I said, you'd like to think it wouldn't matter if someone had your exact same routine and that you're awesome enough to still win...but that's not my point.

I think if the owner of your gym doesn't mind then that's one thing. And if you're literally helping...as in "Here's our pyramid. Why won't it work???" as opposed to "can we have your pyramid? It's so fierce!" then that's different.

From a parent's perspective, I would not want anybody doing choreography for my gym that was affiliated with any gym on the east coast. Teams on the east coast travel all up and down the coast competing, the chances of us encountering the choreographer's home gym would be somewhat decent , and quite frankly, I would be concerned that the choreography provided to us would be sub-par compared to what is done for their own gym. All of our choreography is done in-house and the staff at our gym actually provides choreography for many school and rec teams in the area, so it is a moot point, but I just would not be fond of someone from a gym that we could potentially compete against actually doing *our* choreography.

I would be livid if my coach gave away or sold OUR(not his to sell, IMHO) choreography, even if we beat said team. which is essentially what Just-a-Mom is asking, correct? ;)

For the other stuff, helping another team that you're competing against...eh...it doesn't give me warm fuzzies, but i can see how it happens. I know our coaches have choreographed for schools, etc. it would raise my eyebrows if they choreographed for another nearby gym, though. it just seems disloyal, even though I know it's a personal financial decision. I would totally get over that after I had my initial negative reaction..LOL.

As for sharing information, i think it's great! and a completely different scenario.

A coach from a very well known gym (not gonna give out names in this, but it was a gym with multiple worlds titles) came to help coreograph two of our routines. However, they didn't have any teams that could ever go against those two teams, because ours teams are all-girl and theirs at those levels are coed. So, I'm good with it as long as we'll never be against the other gym :)

I choreographed one of the first place teams at Jamfest SuperNationals who happened to be competing against my own team. I gave them my best and it worked for them, I gave my kids my best and they looked like Mortal Combat on Ice the Musical. I wouldn't do it close to home but as it being a matter of integrity I didn't feel there was a conflict at all...I was hired in each circumstance to produce quality products according to the scoresheets of the competitions they were going to and did just that.

I have no problem with coaches and even gyms helping each other out,but when you give two different teams the same choreography, then, Houston, we have a problem...

Agree with that completely.

Theres a coach from Cap City that comes and holds a tumbling clinic at my gym once a month for the level 5 athletes, so I can kinda see where theyre coming from.
But your situation is kinda cray.

We had an all star gym choreograph our routine (high school team) and they also choreographed some of the routines of teams we compete against. The routines are not at all alike.
