Well, with the old scoresheet you could. However, this new one really makes that difficult. We are limited to knowing what ranges we'll score in.I feel like as a coach, when you walk into that arena you should already have an idea of what your team is going to score (barring anything crazy happening)
At WSF in Louisville some Senior level 4 teams were in a different arena (where the level 5 was) therefore had a different judging panel than some of the other Senior level 4 (and Junior level 4) teams. Interesting how all of the Summit bids that were won were from that other hall. I would like to see the same judging panel for the same level....don't split the division up between 2 different halls when there are bids at stake."Scores are based on performances at that day’s event compared to other teams in your division and/or level.
Teams will notice a variance in scores from event to event."
How much of an impact will comparative scoring have on comp. this year?
Thanks!
I guess I don't feel the same because all the teams are good at Worlds, especially during Day 2 and 3 of Worlds so it's less subjective. They're judged on a comparative scoresheet at Worlds. In fact, I believe Worlds teams are competing on the Worlds scoresheet this year.

They are quite similar.
Yes to all of this. We've competed on this scoresheet twice and I wasn't impressed. The reason we do this is because we want to compete. In order to compete you have to be competitive in your division. Because your scores are comparative to who is there that weekend, it gives you no clue what you're doing great and what you need to work on. Your scores at the next competition can change based on who's there. I believe if we were to continue being scored on this system, we will show up in April at Worlds and we won't know any more about how to improve our scores than we did in Dec. To travel and compete against the top teams in the country takes $$. A LOT of $$. It's too expensive to be their guina pigs for a season, and this isn't working.
The divisions I've watched, I do think they got right. But, they're going to have to do better than that.
Maybe I'm biased. Maybe it's a level 5 thing. Not everybody has a team that 10 groups are doubling up with 7 tic tocs and 5 body positions. Not everybody has 22 standing fulls and 36 combos through to doubles on their team's. You can't sandbag level 5.....so I believe you have to have a scoring system where you can see every time you compete if you're getting better or worse as the season progresses.
If not to compete and get better....why even do this?
Yes to all of this.
The goal is to continue to evolve and improve until the culminating event at worlds. In order to do that, you have to go to where the competition that will test you and push you is located. Which is why I'm still on hold with US Airways right now booking flights.
In a sport where our family flies to compete at least three times this season (and that's because we can drive to Orlando or it would be 5) were talking about thousands of dollars...much of which the EP's are benefiting from with their autocratic stay to play initiative this year. It's not acceptable for them to put out a judging "rubric" that gives our coaches exactly no direction for how to accomplish the sole goal of the season, which is to adjust, improve and progress.
This scoresheet does not allow our coaches to do that which means we could get the same result staying local and competing against no one than flying all over the US (literally) for no benefit other than to compete against tough teams since our scores will only mean something that day with that panel of judges.
This sport has gotten ridiculously expensive just in our nine years but at least I could justify why we were hopping planes to find strong competition.
This scoresheet negates that justification entirely which only serves to make the financial burden even more acute. That's ridiculous and parents should be just as outraged as coaches that were not getting what were paying for.
Amen!!Yes to all of this.
