Does Varsity allow teams to compete at the Summit if they are unopposed? I see this at competitions and I realize that it's much harder to create competition in every division but was wondering if there was some guidelines Varsity may use so that every team at least competes against another gym.

Don't think it's happened yet. Last year Y4 small had two teams. There may have been large Y4. Too lazy to look it up right now, though.

I did a quick search and it looks like every division had competition but in 2013-2014 summit results there were several teams unopposed. Did they just walk in and get rings or did Varsity change their policy?
This year there are several divisions with no competition so I was wondering if the EP's try and give bids to those divisions to create competition or does Varsity give the team an option to change their division?

in 13-14 there was one large Y3 with a Summit bid, they combined the large Y3 with I think there was maybe 12 small Y3's. CP was in the Y3 division that year. Again. off memory but I absolutely know they combined the 1 large Y3 with the rest of the small Y3's.

It's still early, bids continue to go out until April.

I live in Florida so going to a competition it is not out of the ordinary but if I live in some other state my parents would never pay for me to go to Orlando to compete against no one, just sayin.

As a Floridian, I can understand that sentiment. However, just getting a bid to the Summit is an accomplishment that should not be looked down upon.

Agreed, It is really expensive and we raised money to go. I can only imagine what airfare costs and additional nights at a hotel on top of it all. The way my parents see it may be different than others. Going to the Summit from out of state would not be in our budget but if it is something to help me get into college they would find a way. As I have gotten older school has become more of a priority to them then cheer. The privates went away and if I don't learn it at Open Gym then I don't have it. My parents showed me how much they spent on Allstar Cheer over the years. I felt horrible to be honest. That would pay for my college. So, now I don't go to a big gym that goes to competitions all over but I have a lot of fun.

I believe that there have to be at least 2 large and 2 small teams to have a division split. So if there are 2 large and 1 small they will combine the divisions. Some EP's will allow a division to be split if there are two teams from the same gym which would be forced to compete against each other if the divisions are combined (like 2 Y2's from different locations of the same gym) but I'm not sure if that's true for the summit. I'm sure it says the policy in the rules though if you want to look that up.

When you accept a summit bid you have no idea how much competition ultimately will be in the division especially if you take an early bid. I don't think anyone accepts the bid thinking they would go and compete against no one. Pretty sure varsity will combine large and small to ensure competition in all divisions.

I agree but people were saying in the past they went and had no competition. It doesn't sound like something Varsity would do. You can turn down a bid.
