Hi! I coach 7-9 year olds and this is our 2nd year going to competition. I was just wondering about competition cheers because I had a difficult time coming up with one...is it wrong to take cheers that you find online and sort of copy and paste different phrases to make it your own? I just wanted to make sure before I taught the whole thing to the girls? Some of the words are actually from this site and the rest I blended with one of my old high school cheers - also the moves are from my high school cheer as well. Thank you!

Totally okay to combine cheers from a bunch of sources. I probably wouldn't use another team's whole cheer word-for-word (for fear that another team at the competition would have the exact same cheer), but in reality, cheers are similar anyway. Make sure that the length of the cheer matches how much it is worth on the score sheet - for instance, if the cheer counts for 50% of the score, you probably want to have a longer cheer, maybe with crowd involvement and signs. If, however, it is only worth 5% of the score but tumbling is worth more, you may want to do a shorter, chant-type cheer and focus on the parts of the score sheet that are worth more.

Thank you so much for your feedback. That's what I though but I wanted to make sure. I kind of pieced together some cheers from websites because all of the ones I could remember were not competition-like cheers. It's only my second year as a coach and last year the other coach choreographed the routine and cheer, this year it's me and two moms that have never cheered who stepped up to help. So I just wanted to make sure I wasn't doing anything wrong. Thank you so much :) I really appreciate your feedback.
