Hey, I have just recently been released to tumble again from a concussion. I was out for 2 months and I was wondering if any of you have ever had a concussion and how long you weren't allowed to cheer.

Everytime I see your avatar I do a double take because for a split second I think it's me! My cp's friend had one - took a shoe to the head during a tumbling pass - I think it was at least 2 weeks. The doctor based it on how well her symptoms resolved at each checkup I believe. But during those 2 weeks, limited activity including watching tv and being on the computer. Good luck going back!Hey, I have just recently been released to tumble again from a concussion. I'm a Cheer Mom, but recently suffered my own second concussion just last year which took 8 months before I felt back to my old self! Concussions are tricky and differ widely from person to person for various reasons depending upon how bad the concussion was, if you've ever had a concussion before and where the injury is actually located because it can affect many different things in your brain. There is no specific amount of time that it takes.....it just needs to heal on its own. However, what IS important is not to push yourself to go back to your regular activities too soon! It sounds funny when they say "rest your brain", but that is actually the best thing you can do! Going back to tumbling, flipping or flying too early can prolong the concussion, for sure. I was told to not even use my computer! Be mindful of the way you feel.....and don't push yourself to go back to cheering too soon!Hey, I have just recently been released to tumble again from a concussion. be careful and listen to your body. If your head hurts, don't try to do much. Concussions are scary! I've never honestly had one myself, but my brother's friend from soccer got them all the time. He actually hit his head on a metal grate slipping on wet grass during a game one time and the hospital doctors told him if he got one more concussion after that he'd never play again! So just take care of yourself! And good luck! :)Hey, I have just recently been released to tumble again from a concussion. I can say that even though I have recovered from my concussions.....the most recent was when I fell on the ice last year.....there are parts of me that still aren't the same, either! My eyesight even changed! The symptoms can be very subtle.....so the point is, don't overlook them and not take them seriously, because no matter how subtle they are, its still your body telling you something!Be really careful. My daughter had 3 mild concussions last season. She finished out her season but her tumbling has never been the same since the 1st one. Just listen to what your body is saying and stay safe.
